OK so i have a D5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens, and im really missing the zoom i got used to with my bridge camera.

looking at a not too pricey zoom lens as a sort of middle ground

like the look of this one:

Nikon 55-200MM F/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX Black Lens

seems to be lightweight and fairly fast to auto-focus?

this will be my middle lens before i save up for the:

Nikon AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED

any advice?

cheers

What are you using the zoom for?

I've just traded up to that model 70-300 and its very nice! got it on Amazon last week... would you sell the 55-200 to go towards the 300?

Ermm no i dont think i would...as id like the option to have the 55-200 as its very light apparently

cheers for replying

The reason I ask is there is quite an overlap in those lenses...

Whats your budget for the middle lens before the £350-£400 for the 300?

Well looking around 100-150 so not much tbh

Does anyone have images from the VR model at full range?

cheers

What was the zoom range on the bridge?

Nikon
80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR AF Zoom-Nikkor
200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor

Sigma
Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM Lens Review

But I don't think any of them are cheap.

If you don't mind manual, perhaps an adapter and an m42 mount lens might get you there.

Errrm it was a 15x optical zoom....have no idea what that works out to in mm though...

And im pretty set on the 55-200 for now and then a bigger one at the start of next year
