Just spotted that Costco are doing this camera for just under £120. Has anybody out there got one and have any feedback as to pros/cons of this model. I've not really looked into these devices that much but fancy the idea from an insurance evidence point of view. Then again I'm as likely to be hit from behind so wondered whether getting a front/back camera would be better.

That's pricey for a dashcam. I use this SJCam (GoPro clone) in my van http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NN5HPQG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage it's a great camera, really high quality images and comes with a raft of mounting options.
There is a little more to a dashcam than just being a camera ;)

Depending on the video quality the nextgen 402G offers so much more to justify its decent price. Looks a lot better than some blue peter solution in the car.

I went for a road hawk pro hd, purely for the image quality as I wanted to ensure that when I catch footage I can identify the other party regardless of the atmospheric conditions.

Just as well I'm ignoring content from you, I'd be tempted to say how little appreciation I have for your patronising attitude.

Peter, you spend the £120 if you want to, the option I linked to is half the price but it's your decision and only you know if you'll be happy with it in the end.

Rather than attacking me as a person once again, why not argue the point on why an actioncam clone is just as good as a dashcam.

For starters it wouldn't lock the files and protect against overwriting in case of an event. Secondly it wouldn't provide evidence of your direction, or speed or being stationary. Just to name a couple of key points that greatly assist in providing the evidence that it wasn't your fault.

So why not discuss the point instead of lashing out to the person. Best to just keep on ignoring ;) if you can't behave yourself.

Maplins have them for £129.99 it has some customer reviews on them, some good and some bad >> http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/nextbase-402g-professional-dash-cam-recorder-a65th

I bought one of these towards the end of last summer, and used it successfully for a few months, and bought another for the rear of the car as I was so pleased with the original. I bought them "refurbished" from ebay. (just checked and they now sell for ~ £80) I thought the video quality was good and it was very easy to set up. Since changing cars, I have not as yet re-installed them as I need to re-route power cables as my car has the cigarette lighter connection next to the handbrake and I want to hide all the connections under the dashboard.

As said above there are mixed reviews and I did have to send the second one back for replacement as it appeared to have a defective internal battery. They are designed to be plugged into a power source all the time as the battery will only last about 8 minutes on its own. I thought they were good value considering what I paid for them, they have been around since mid-to end 2013, believe they got a Recommended / Best Buy from Which Magazine in Feb 2014 and were sold through Halfords where in general the unit got good reviews. Now a year later there may be other better/cheaper units available.

Many thanks for the feedback. Given the last comment by @lostsoulal2 I guess he's quite happy with them. I had spotted the Maplins price but Costco is usually quite a lot cheaper than other shops for things so I'm wondering whether the Costco version has more in it like a case and memory card as the packaging seem bigger than just a cam. I'll need to go back and have another look as it's not listed on their website.

Don't forget that Amazon.co.uk is selling it as well. And Costco has got excellent customer service, if it goes wrong it will be no quibbles return :)

Yes, I have been happy with mine, especially as I managed to get 2 "refurb" units for less than the price of a new one.............. :D. I recall that Amazon had a package bundle which included a 32GB (the max it can handle = just over 4 hours recording) Micro SD card, a neoprene carry case and the easy install hard wire kit - the latter means no unsightly car cigarette lighter plug / cable is required trailing across your car to power the camera, this was being sold for £145 (they had the bare unit on their last Black Fridays deals for £99.)

You may wish to check out the Nextbase website as they are showing details of the 512G or the "Duo" which includes both a front and rear camera. I have not kept myself up to date on what is best in the in-car cam world :) .

Get the eprance g1w instead, a lot cheaper but just as good.

If you go for the E-Prance make sure the seller is E-Prance, there are iffy copies about, though you shouldn't have any issues buying from Amazon. I have an earlier version of that in my car (Ambarella chip) and it's been faultless, it has the GPS module but that has questionable usefulness I think. Video quality is great, on a par with the SJCam I mentioned above, a 32gb card should record for about nine hours before it starts to overwrite the earliest files.
