Sorry if this is in the wrong section.....

Does the in-camera sharpening work?
I can't really tell if it does or not!!

I use RAW most of the time, so I can sharpen this way.
Only use JPEG occasionally.

afaik In-camera sharpening will only work when you are shooting JPG.

In camera sharpening is part of the processing the camera does to the jpeg file in amongst a lot of other things it needs to do to create the final jpeg. RAW files are just the data that is collected by the sensor and nothing more so sharpening will have no effect on the RAW file.

Could always try it for yourself, on mine you can set it to sharpen less as well as more, so take the same photo at two extremes and see if you can notice! I'd imagine in camera stuff to 'probably' be inferior to doing it yourself on the pc where you have control over the parameters.

Only works on jpg mode and even then it's best not to have the sharpening turned up, so that you can choose how and where you want to sharpen in post process.

If you only use jpg and don't want to post process then adjust to taste.

Thanks allot for the help on this one guys.

I understand now!
