I will own a Nikon D700 :) :) :)

I am so excited me and Liam have saved so hard for today and its finally here

I already have a Nikon 24-70mm just waiting to be united with a lovely full fram camera :)

Happy days!

i heard a rumour that D700s use a weird memory card which isnt accepted by any memory card readers and that you have to use the camera to download piccies

is this true? If so - it sucks

D700 uses the standard compact flash I think someone is trying to pull your chain.

Congrats on the camera you will love it.

Nigel

Thanks Shutterman, this is a lady at college whos got a D700 but will only spend 100 or less on lenses :P

Needless to say she doesnt really know what shes doing!

Just remember that it seems to take for ever when you get home and the battery is charging and all you want to do is play. I not jealous at all.

I am hoping the guy i am buying it from will have charged it for me!

I have it - charged and ready :) didnt enjoy paying Jessops for a memory card though - 70quid - thanks :(

But its lovely, still very confusing but lovely all the same - am going to have to work hard and work it all out (i am sure there is a logic... just have to find it!)

What memory card did you buy? You should have shopped around online, it would have been miles cheaper.

I got a 8G SanDisk Extreme III

I will be shopping around online asap for some more :)

I didnt however, want to keep the D700 in the box for a few more days whilst i waited for a card to arrive ;)

Hope you managed to get out and about today to have a blast with the new body, the menu system is packed to the rafters with functions and the my menu is one of the best things to prevent you getting lost in the menus, select your most used menu settings and store them in the my menu section. Also it is a good idea to place functions you use all the time on the programmable buttons.

Here are several shots from today, this is a hand held pano shot from 14 images with the D700.

I don't hate you. Not at all. ;)

Enjoy it, I will hopefully be joining you, if I can find a nice cheap 2nd hand one!!

The D90 is a fab little camera though, i borrowed one from college to do a shoot on thursday - was lovely but i prefer my D700 (though it is mindbendingly confusing at the moment!)

I wonder if they do day courses in it? That would be ace

Took some chicken photos today, worked out how all the top panels work and had a play, will add to my knowledge more tomorow and act on that, slowly build it up... Its a complicated camera and the user guide is quite confusing and very large! I am eager to learn it though, and grow into it too

:) Happy Fi xx

Grant (or Grant-A-Wish as we have been calling you :) ) Thank you so much, i wanted to put a big thank you up but didnt know if i should

Is fabulous and i have been playing around with chickens and lighting all day :)

Am one third of the way through the user manual... feels a little bit like learning chords on a guitar - everything has a right way and a wrong way and i can imagine its all very easy when you know what they are :)

Thank you so much Grant

take care

Apologies for going slightly OT: As an aside to the D700, i wouldnt buy any memory cards from ebay, nor would I buy Hoya filters for that matter - there are too many fakes floating around on ebay.
Instead i'd use a reputable web retailer such as mymemory or 7dayshop...

<Masssive drawn out sigh> Could everybody READ my post please - yes i would have shopped around for a memory card but I DIDNT WANT TO WAIT THREE DAYS TO USE MY CAMERA

Price of cards on line = 30/40quid

Price of cards in Jessops - 70quid

so thats 10/12 quid per day for using my camera

Bargain i say

So please, read the post

No offence, but if you have been saving for ages- why not get the card a week before the new camera? Having said that, I know what its like when you get new kit, you can't wait to use it :)

well, mostly because our biggest concern was on building up the money to buy the camera, we have been back on student food for the last few months to get it all ready to go.

Plus i didnt expect for a second that jessops would charge me 70quid for a memory card - thought maybe 50quid or something

i guess i forgot just what a rip off they are!

Sorry - my town doesnt have a local Amazon store

Did you read my post at all?

Wow, you need to sort out your attitude..... I did read your post actually, you said:

So i thought i'd post a link, but apparently it wasn't very helpful at all :cuckoo::bang: If you had wanted a temporary solution a 2gb whatever brand would have been a better choice........

Thanks for your help but i am aware of amazon ;)

Your post didnt come across as that friendly... sorry if thats not how you intended it to be read.

They had a 4g for 50quid or a 8g for 70, i felt like i was being shafted less with the 8g tbh

Jessops really have it wrong, they should stock decent priced things like memory cards because i means more people might pop in there and buy stuff if they are in the same posistion i was in yesterday

instead they overprice things like this, meaning i will want even less to do with them :(

Jessops actually will bundle stuff so if you buy an expensive item they will give you a discount or throw stuff in for free - e.g. free filters, free cards etc. I bought a lens two weeks ago and got a manfrotto 681B and a 4gb sandisk extreme III for £50. Given that the lens was £350 less than grey websites I was really happy!

i do generally check the Jessops website when i look for stuff but they have never really been cheaper for what i want

Still look though - ho hum :)

Recently asked in Jessops if i bought a new camera would they do any small items at a discount to persuade me to buy there

Got a total knock back to that suggestion

while i agree with shopping around personally id avoid ebay like the plague for cards due to the amount of fakes.

OK, I am not saying y'all should run off to ebay and buy your goodies I am all to aware of all the fakes on there.

Fleabay was just a suggestion.

All I am saying is shop around..... if you can wait that is.

And if you cant wait then its time to pay the piper !! ;)
