Anyone got any useful advice for how I can add to my kit on a (very tight) budget?

My kit consists of a Canon 400D, the standard 18-55mm kit lens, and a nifty 50. I want to get some decent glass for when I next shoot a motorsport event for the magazine I freelance for, rather than having to rely on borrowing kit from a mate or hiring stuff.

I'm happy to buy second hand to ease the budget but I'm a bit worried about using eBay as lenses are obviously sensitive pieces of kit and don't want to get stiffed with something pants.

I'm currently watching this on eBay, opinions welcome!

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome!

I think that lens is a great first buy for what you are looking for, buying anything from ebay comes with its own risks but as long as you ask the right questions before buying you should be ok, also make sure if 2nd hand you get closeup glass shots.

Tha other thing you could do when you decide on the next lens is pop a wanted advert on here, there are always people upgrading and selling some of their current kit to fund it. Hope you get the one you are after :)

Have you been keeping your eye peeled on the MPB Photographic site I have had several bargains from there and they have been top notch quality wise..

Nip in to the Devon Camera Centre and London Camera Exchange and see what they've got in their 2nd hand cabinets. Have a look in Mifsuds as well.

Mifsuds is a large dealer in Brixham.

Mifsuds.com should get you there virtually and a bus will get you there in person (27-29 Bolton Street Brixham).

I think Camerex deal mainly in older stuff but might be worth a visit if you're passing through Marsh Barton.

Other than lookign for the cheap sites/ shops remember to only get what you really want / will use ie not point getting a 500 2.8 if all you want to do is take pictures of landscapes.

and yes i know you can use telephoto lens for landscape work but you get my point:P
