had the 3GS for last two years and it was pants!

so sat in a low lit room i took a snap of my new born :)

was impressed how it coped in low light, no flash on.

it's been difficult getting the dslr out with a toddler and new born, but i got it out one eve in similar light conditions and struggled with the dslr LOL

I was impressed with mine aswell :}
I've been using photography apps such as Luminance {editor}, Tilt & Shift, Hipstamatic & Instagram. Good fun for snapshots!

The video quality too on the 4s is staggering - I never fail to be impressed.

i've yet to use the video much but will give it ago

shame can't adjust shutter speed as would be great as the toddler moves so quick these days

There's probably an app for that :)

they do take good pics, what makes me giggle is alot of people calling them photographers and u ask what cam they have and lo and behold they say an i phone :|

I got a 4s recently and I am also impressed by the camera. My last phone ( A Galaxy S 1) wasn't bad, but this ones really wowing me.

I've not tried the video much yet, but I've seen some impressive stuff done with an iPhone 4, including a BMX video which at first I didn't actually believe was done on a phone!

I think it's on Vimeo actually, I'll try and find it and post a link.

I was quite impressed how well it focused, here's a pic of my nephew I took with my 4s.

I wouldn't giggle. Would you giggle if they said they used a pinhole camera? Or an old 35mm rangefinder? Just what level of camera is required for you to be able to call yourself a photographer? The tool used to make the image is pretty irrelevant.

There are plenty of folk who use iPhones who are very serious about their photography just as there are many who don't have a clue...but the same can be said of SLR users. ;)

All photographers employed by the Guardian newspaper are trained and expected to be able to use iphones for pictures that appear in the newspaper.

The pictures look ok for a phone camera. If a DSLR was producing these photos then I'd be pretty disappointed though.

I agree, that comment was a very strange one.

My galaxy s2 is way better than my iphone 4s for images and video its seriously impressive, but i hardly use it.

I only have a humble iPhone 4, and hardly ever use it. However I unusually found myself without a camera this weekend and used it. Had a play in Aperture - not amazing but better than I was expecting:

I've had the 4s for six months now and even though I've taken the odd shot , I never realised how good these can be until you upload to a pc (as I've only viewed them on the phone or FB.)
Will have to make better use of the phone :):):)

I'm upgrading my phone on friday and have the option between the Xperia s and iphone 4s.

I'm thinking of going for the 4s but anything has to better than my HTC Desire camera, that is truly awful.

Had a HTC Desire and yes the camera is dreadful. Upgraded to an iPhone 4s last week. All i can say is WOW.

I don't know how i managed without one now. Seamless syncing of email accounts, calendars, reminders. Very useful apps. IOS5 is smooth and fast. Added to that the fact that i can store a shed load of music on it , so i only need one device.

Plus the camera is very good for a phone with a load of settings and additional apps that can increase the fun.

Upgrade now!

I've had iphone (3gs and 4s) for over 2 1/2 years and I've never looked back. I seem to run my life from it from contacts, calender, meetings, internet, business apps inc all word excel docs etc.

go for it!!

See, that's what I like about iOS over Android. It just works beautifully! I can't see me straying far from the Apple tree for the forseeable future!

Once you get an iPhone, I don't think you ever look back. The camera in the 4s is just brilliant and so quick.

I personally don't understand iphone haters. Yes things can be limiting, but what they offer, phone , apps, email , Internet it just works

For a long time I thought it was style over function with Apple and it was reading Steve Job's biog that made me think otherwise.

The issue a lot of people have with Apple products is the cost and whether the additional cost is worth it to them.
I use a computer at home a lot and want to make the experience as pleasant as possible so to me spending £900 on an iMac that I will use for 4 or 5 years is well worth the money. Others think differently and would rather spend £500 on a Windows machine that performs just as well processor and memory wise. However, it is the usability that they are missing but they won't know that as they won't buy an Apple.

I use Windows for 8 hours a day at work and my choice out of work has been Apple for the last 10 years which tells me all I need to know...

What blog is that?

Im far from an iphone or apple hater, ive owned 5 iphones and 4 ipads. And now im on to my samsung galaxy. I just got a bit bored of the same old stuff and needed a change, the iphone is certainly a great phone.

I read this thread with interest, as I've got the earlier iPhone and the camera is - as said - pants, but my son as the new iPone and like people have said it produces good results - but I had to laugh when he sent me this!!!!

Making a bit of an assumption here (on the look of the lenses) but you have to ask if she just didnt trust the make of camera she was using (being a nikon user - sorry just a bit of :lol:)

I like Apple for some things, but I prefer a PC for home computing. That doesn't mean I don't understand what Apple has to offer, or that I'm missing usability.

The iPhone 4s does have a great inbuilt camera for point and shoot pictures, but I still like using a real camera

Zzzzzzzzzz here we go again. It has a lens. It has a sensor. It changes aperture and ISO. It takes images. IT IS A REAL CAMERA.

Understanding what Apple has to offer and actually using one for 10 years in almost equal amount to a PC are different though. If you did there is a chance you too would miss the usability and overall 'pleasantness' when using.
Again, not saying it is right for everyone (some users expectation of products - intuitiveness, reliability etc,. are different than others) and it does come at a cost.

I have had an iPhone and am now using an htc. I much prefer android to ios. I always found it frustrating how i couldn't tether my laptop whilst on the train, or how i would lose an email that I'd been writing if i replied to a text message. Plus i love the MIUI interface. I'm just waiting now for the new Samsung galaxy...

I've always had android, until 6months ago when I bought a 3GS on the cheap and admittedly I've always had a thing against the apple fan boys so to speak, I could never see the fascination they had with apple products. That changed when I got my 3GS, even though by apple standards it was old it worked so flawlessly and smoothly. I decided to get an iPhone 4 on contract a week ago and I'm loving it tbh so much better than android ( ssg2 user) no crashes etc, just getting to grips with the camera and some decent camera apps, the iPhone as stated 'just works'
