Hello,

i am trying to develop a workflow that works best for me.

I use Lightroom and like to import any new photos into this as this is best way to keep my photos organised.

Now if i take Raw+jpegs, lightroom imports the RAW files and changes them to DNG files.

Now is it worth me shooting in both or should i stop the jpeg option?

ideally what i would like to be able to do is import the jpeg for quick editing and back the raw files up for backup and any further editing.

ANy ideas?

thanks

LR doesn't change RAW files to DNG unless you tell it to! You can do what you want - it;s all in the manual.....but my advice would be just shoot RAW!

I use two cards on my D300s and save RAW to one and jpg to the other. I simply use the jpgs for a quick view or for the Mrs to view, upload to blogs etc whilst I use the RAW in lightroom to process/tweak and if required I'll export a processed jpg from Lightroom, instead of the out of camera version.

No need to shoot jpg either - unless you need to. You can quicly and easily export jpg images from Lr.

As above, it is so easy to set Lightroom to auto tweak everything to get a RAW to look like a jpeg it isn't worth shooting both and having the issue of two copies of each file.

Just RAW for me too, saving JPEG as well just takes up valuable space on your memory card, unless you need JPEGs for speed, editing is far more flexible with in RAW or DNG and, as said before, you can easily export in JPEG from LR.
