Had a phone call today from a woman claiming her name was Janet. She was from IT support ( Don't know who's IT support ) and told me my computer was running slow and needed attention.

Very short conversation. Could have strung her along but was doing something far more important ( Putting the kettle on)

OK I've had Accident cold calls, Energy saving and even offers to consolidate all my loans into one manageable one, but never telling my computer was running slow.:)

Interesting to see if anyone else gets this phone call

Upadate

This is a phishing scam: They ask to log onto your computer to try and solve the problem. What they are doing is trawling for bank details. They then download a Trojan that is a keystroke logger. Apparently if you tell them you are on a Mac it totally blows their mind.

I got one from a bloke in India called "paul" I asked if he wanted to speak to my dad as its his pc. Then put him on hold for 10 mins

I'm 36 and my dad lives miles away (Just in case I come across as a kid)

Some one else on TP a while ago (maybe a year or two) got such a call ha ha, he taped the whole conversation and he drew it out and out and out, (at least 30min or more) then he dropped the bombshell, Im on a mac it was really funny, dont know if anyone remembers who it was and the thread

That was Joe in the Microsoft scam phone call thread in the out of focus section

If you really want to mess with their minds, tell them you don't have a phone...

I had a call from "windows" a few weeks ago, I asked if they meant Microsoft and they said no they work for windows so I said all my windows were fine in fact the window cleaner had just been yesterday so no problem for them to sort out. It bothers me that people would be taken in by this kind of call!

Had one of these calls last week from a Indian sounding person. I told him I don't have a computer, there was a silence then the phone went dead

Last one I had, I asked which computer of mine it was he was calling about. He was unsure, so I suggested he give me the IP address. He didn't know that, but he knew it was running Widows.

So I offered to list all of my computers, with the OS version they're running... about eight Macs from various eras, from a Mac Pro running 10.6 all the way back to a 1984 vintage Mac 128K with the original system floppy. Not one running Windows amongst them

The call ended shortly thereafter. :)
