Should I happen to wear a genuine "Guardia Civil" (Spanish local Police) jacket in public (in the UK) would I be committing an offense of "impersonating a police officer"...

Don't ask the why's and what for's... just a theoretical question...

(But why - I may have borrowed one from a Spanish friend, what for - Norfolk Mafia meet next week!)

Strippers get away with it.

Just as long as you aren't trying to enforce the law.

There has to be a criminal intent otherwise actors, stripagrams, etc, wouldn't get away with it.

Steve.

I used to wear a bus drivers jacket years ago and never got arrested for impersonating one, (hope that helps)

I know i'll probably regret asking this but why would you wear a bus drivers jacket? lmao

The answer to your question, in your circumstances is NO! Not an offence. The end!!

It was a nice jacket, a bus driver gave it to me.(I was bloody hippy, we used to wear such things.)

ha ha ha...

indeed, however i am sure strippograms etc don't have "proper" ones, just "lookalike ones" ....

In all honesty, I don't care, it's going on the boat (again) .. just intrigued

Steve.

I think this is true but there was one in Scotland that got a lot of bother when he was dressed as a policeman.

Really?
So, this is more important than seeking advice on what someone should spend their hard earned cash on?

Back in the stone age I used to wear a German Army surplus jacket and no-one shot at me. Did get a few strange looks traveling through Germany though..

A mate of mine had a plod spec Bimmer (bike) and stuck reflective strips on it to make it more visible. His local plod took offence and took him to court but his (quite correct) claim was that the strips were in different places and of a different colour to police ones and were there to make him more visible to other road users. He won.

Surely not...it's not a UK uniform and their badges, I think, say "Guardia Civil" rather than anything that might easily be mistaken for "Police", eg Polizei.

By the way, the Guardia Civil are not a local police force, they're a national quasi-military force, see: link.

I was just about to correct that too. The local police are called (not surprisingly!) policía local.
