Images soft/ lack detail after ACR

I've got a weird one. I open a RAW file in ACR, edit it and then open it in CS4.

The image in ACR is "correct" (in this instance, noisy as hell, as it's an ambient light photo in a dark room). When I click Open Image and it's opened in CS4, the image is softer, the noise and detail are greatly reduced.

Any ideas? I've rebooted my PC (W7 64bit) but it's made no difference. I've tried two different images and it does the same.

Not sure if it makes any difference but both are converted to grey scale in ACR.

Driving me mad!

In the ACR preferences you can make the sharpening preview only in ACR, ie looks sharp in ACR, but the sharpening is not applied to the picture. The noise reduction does still work however, so if you don't want that to be applied, you need to move the sliders to 0.

I'm sure I hadn't changed the settings but toggled it on and off and now it seems to work OK again (preview is ticked). It was the color noise reduction that was removing the detail so I must have had preview off in the sharpening.

That's what a grotty cold and a bottle of Rioja does to you (last night not this morning) :)
