Hello.

Im looking at taking my photography to the next step. I currently have a website but would like to add a store to the website in order to sell prints. Im thinking this is going to get a lot more sophisticated.

What do I need to do in order to legally sell them on my website?

In need of help!

Just had another word with my mum and she isn't too happy with it. Shes been doing arts and crafts for a long time and looked at setting up a website to sell her crafts. They basically said to her if you have a website to sell stuff then your willing to sell enough to make a living so you need to be declared as a business.

You either sell to make profit so thats a business or keep it as a hobby

I spoke to the HMRC before setting up my website. I have a "proper job" as well, but had to be registered self-employed and I operate as a sole trader. I found it surprisingly simple and the HMRC exceedingly helpful. Give them a call for some advice.

Ahh so I need to be registered as self-employed then. That could throw some complications out there as im currently on job seekers allowance after completing three years in IT and obtaining good grades a year on im still working part time in a retail store :(

Speak to HMRC - they really are very helpful. If I say I paid 20p in tax last year you will understand I have a very small business and I would be surprised if job seekers would be a problem with a small quantity of on-line sales.

It really is worth giving them a call rather than asking non-expert opinions on a forum :)

Why risk being charged with Benefit Fraud by selling a few images- you need to get some professional advice, maybe the Job Centre could advise?

Asking on a Public forum, will get so many different answers, some right but mostly wrong :rules:

Les ;)
