... well, have been a bit naughty and keep forgetting the upload size restriction, in terms of 800 being the amount of pixels if not panoramic.

So firstly apologies, and thanks for the person who replaced with the links :)

So, in an attempt to get a more definitive answer, I thought I'd post my question.

Why is there that restriction? I could understand if the images were actually hosted here, but given they are hosted elsewhere - why should it matter? I then thought, perhaps its for those on 56k modems .... although who actually uses 56k modems these days?

I find it so annoying as I often would like to see a large version.

So, can anyone provide the reasoning on this rule? I did try to search for whether this topic has came up before. Also tried to pm Marcel, but thats not allowed either.

Thanks :)

I think it's so people can see the whole picture without having to scroll
and not everyone had cinema size screens!

They did consider increasing the size, but a public vote/pole was held, and it stayed at 800. So it was a general opinion of the tp members (including myself).

Even with broadband (though it is a bit of a joke to call it that, as I stuggle to over 512k sometimes) I can get very slow load times for photos..though it normally depends on the host. When the trial for larger sizes was run I found myself waiting a good 5 minutes sometimes for a set of 7 or 8 images to load at 1000 pixels wide. With 800s I still have wait a while sometimes, but it is considerably quicker.
