Had a request for a price for an image.

'Please can you give me a cost on using this image. It will be used as an email invitation with type superimposed on top and distributed internally for a Legal firm. Recipients will be in the region of 50.'

Has anyone got a rough figure this usage, as i have no clue.

No advice from me Tristan as I have no experience in this but I have to say well done mate!

A sale :D!

Had an update, requested £50, didnt hear anything back until now.

'The client would also like to use this as a hardcopy invitation. It is for a Legal services firm, about 50 print run internal usage. Email invite will go to same recipients as the print invite.

Can you let me know a cost for both email and print usages.'

I have no clue.. Should i adjust the price, and if so how much?

cheers guys

Hey Blinkerz

Congratulations on that...

Do you mind me asking where they found your image?

Good luck...

Regards

AJ

I'd double it, 2 lots of usage. Take of £10 for it being a double order, £90 it is. THe obviously seem happy with the amount you've asked for so far.... Good luck and keep us updated

i got a response 'How would I be able to purchase the image. ie payment/download etc? I will first run the cost via my client and then confirm'

What is the standard way of doing the transaction?. This is all new to me really, but a good learning curve for the future.

I dont have much advice, but bells are ringing in my head.
Are you selling the image and all the rights, or are you selling the image with the limitations as agreed, 50 emails & 50 cards ?
"how would I be able to purchase the image" suggests they may feel they are buying the image, what if they like it so much they decide to print it on 11tybillion brochures.
Just be aware of what can happen, the ruses some companies use to get their pics for virtually nowt, and the miss-conceptions that arise in these situations

and dont undersell yourself.
:)

I would give them very clear options, e.g:

a) License for use in a maximum of 50 emails and 50 prints ONLY. Copyright remains with the photographer. £90

b) Full right's to use the image in any number of emails or prints. Copyright remains with the photographer. £500

c) Full right's including all copyrights. £1000

Don't paypal do invoices themselves, if not dead easy to knock one up, you need to include the obvious:

1. Invoice Number
2. Invoice Date
3. Customer order Number
4. Description of work
5. Usage rights
6. Payment terms.
7. Amount :)
8. Your address, contact number as a clear header...

Think I have captured everything, that's what I use for mine anyhow.

Just use Exel or Word, put your address/letterhead at the top, and then you need their address, date and invoice number and any order number.

In the body something along the lines of image number/name for use in 50 emails and prints, all copyright remains with you. Then total cost

I assume you are not a Limited company or VAT registered, or you would need a bit more on it.

out of interest, what option did they go for?
Well done on selling your work!

Empty your Paypal account as soon as possible - before they get chance to 'claim it back'. It does happen from time to time. Not saying your company you dealt with are dodgy, but better to be safe.
