Hi all, what are others using these days? I used Photoshop CC last year but now the 1 year term is finished I was wondering if there is better/cheaper/same function software out there ..

I would not use a pixel editor to develop my RAW files!

I recommend my students to subscribe to Capture one Pro 11
for the same money or less… a real RAW converter,

Doesn't P'shop CC include Lightroom (i.e. a raw editor)?

To the OP, mostly Lightroom, occasionally DXO Optics pro or On1 Photo Raw.

Are there deals on Capture One 11? Cheapest I can find is about €300 per year (standard less 10% +vat), as opposed to photoshop and Lightroom for £79 per year (amazon deal).

No, that's the price I pay as I prefer to buy it.
You can subscribe at much the same price than
the adobe package… see on their website.
The original poster mentions Photoshop rather than Lightroom. For my money, the best Photoshop replacement is Affinity Photo:
:plus1:

A RAW file CANNOT be edited, Toni, but converted.
I think you're right about Lr and Ps though!

It's just a general description for the software type, rather than a detailed definition of what the software does. ;) We talk about editing raw files, even though that's not at all what we mean.

I really think that a full blown package is wasted on me. I rarely do anything other than touch up my photos to some degree ... I don't do any "art" as such .. I paid over £100 last year for Photoshop last year and it's a pretty much standard adjust colour/light/sharpen/de-speckle perhaps and that's it really ... sad I know but I have limited time and knowledge so it suffices. When i retire i would like to sit back and troll through all my pics and make an album and then I would spend the time (and money) on doing it right ..

If its not pixels what is it? also cost cheaper?
Single user – 3 months subscription – 30 EUR per month
Single user – 12 months subscription – 20 EUR per month
Single user – 12 months subscription (pre-paid) – 180 EUR

i'm playing with darktable as we speak .. seems pretty good ..
It is :)
I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 (free), DXO Optics 11 (free) and just started playing about with Darktable (free)
I don't see much point in paying for something that they are giving away...

well i just tried darktable on a photo that I had adjusted in photoshop (not RAW) .. I must say that the difference is quite remarkable .. i mean i did an average sharpen and colour/exposure adjust and it is more than equal in quality .. it might be a little slower than photoshop in the export .. and it seems a little clunky in design .. but then I've only used it a few minutes .. no .. to be fair .. it's pretty good .. certainly a whole lot cheaper .. thanks for the heads up on it .. i'm off to play :-)
