No
ive allways hated it, more so now im considering i need to spend more time doing it for a few different things.

Does anyone actually enjoy it though, is it really that fun to some people sitting at a screen to play and manipulate the image of what you saw to 1 inch of its life?

Or does everyone else find it a tedious and awful thing, that they want to spend more time out with a camera and toys rather than sat infront of the screen at home tweeking, adjusting, cropping, blending, HDRing, etc...........

discuss :D:D

Well, thank God I am not the only one who can't stand it.

I can't begin to elaborate just how much I detest having to do it.

Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it- just got to be in the right mood I think. That mood is when I see some amazing pictures turn up on screen ;)

really dislike it, really :bang:

Love it, it's where I get to finalize exactly what I saw in my minds eye that couldn't be done in camera. In my opinion it is equally as important to be good at as actually taking the photo itself (that is not to say that the camera should not be mastered first lol).

I consider it a necessary evil

Hate using my time on it.:bang:

Dont overly enjoy it, but love to see the end results and play with the RAW file to see what different results I can get from the same picture.

id personally rather get involved with the chemicals etc.. in a drak room than just sit infront of a pc clicking away mind :D
In the dark, strain on your eyes, breathing in all the chemicals? I think sat in daylight with a cup of coffee on a nice chair seeing what I am doing is much better fun

Sorry I cant vote because there's an option missing. "I see processing as an essential part of creating an image"

The camera can't do it alone no matter how good the photographer is.

Love it. Digitising an image and working on it in LR, PS, Aperture (et al) is as much fun as devving film and knocking up a smokin' print in the darkroom for me.

It doesn't make up for bad togging though, despite some people's best efforts.....

For work images I have to say I'd rather not bother, as it's a right chore doing all the captioning in File-Info...
Every so often I get an image that lights a fire under my enthusiasm so to speak and I make an extra effort on that one, but for the most part I use a set of semi-automated actions to do what i need to do.

But for personal work I quite like it - just as I enjoyed spending all-nighters in the dark room trying to perfect three or four prints...
I try not to use the automated actions that I've set-up for my workflow, apart from some that just take ages to go through manually, but even with those I 'tick the boxes' so I have control at each stage...

:agree:

I love that moment when I look at an image on screen and I know EXACTLY what I want to do with it.

I try to previsualise what the final image will look like before I even take the shot now :)

I still try different things though just to see what direction it takes me off in. Certain subjects suit certain processing techniques, not a huge fan of cross processed brides. :gag:

If there was an option of "Sometimes it's fun, sometimes I absolutely hate it", I would've checked that one.

It really depends for me on what exactly needs to be done.

For most images in a shoot it goes like this - adjust optimum exposure, increase contrast slightly, adjust colour temp if necessary, export to jpeg, resize, sharpen, watermark, compress+save.

If it's a photo I've taken that I really like, more time will be taken to process.

I personally love processing, almost as much as I love shooting. It's where I get to finalise my thoughts and see the finished work.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, and tbh don't really care one way or the other. What matters for me is the image at the end and is it what I hoped for, and what sort of reaction does it get?

I do try to stick to non-destructive pp nowadays, and rarely spend any length of time. I struggle to know what people do when they say they spend several hours processing an image.

lol, just Matty having a laugh :)

That'll teach me for being facetious. lol

Hated it when doing weddings ..rather get it right in camera.

Love it when doing my own personal pics.

Depends.

Mostly I try to get it spot on in the camera, but then I usually shoot sports, although seem to be heading more into portrait.

But there are times when the creative urge gets me and I love seeing what difference i can make.

I'm still new to the game so I still quite enjoy it, mainly because I am still learning each time I go to process a batch of images.

I did find it quite boring at the start when the only changes I really made was the usual high pass filter and some level adjustments. It got quite repetative.

I quite enjoy it actually, but then I don't take hundreds and hundreds of images every day
Like I guess a lot of you guys do.

I hate, loathe and detest PP, but it has to be done at times.

Love bouncy melons though.

Being a pink snake (or green for that matter) has its' handicaps ;)

.....

Love bouncy melons though.

Who doesn't

I don't mind it. I must say I aim to take as accurate shot as possible to enable me to make only small adjustments, a touch of sharpening etc. (I like to think it instills good discipline and technical accuracy to get the shot right at the coal face).

Im not mad on PP but as has already been mentioned its now a fundamental part of modern digital photography and if your like myself wanting to become semi pro then its a skill that needs to be learnt.

I hate it i wish it was more simple, probably because i don't know properly what i'm doing, as i really need one to one tuition. So in Gimp i add a little saturation etc because i can't get on with RAW had another go tonight :(

I dont mind it, but when i am tierd i just leave it alone, i use to spend hours in the darkroom & smelling of chemicals ?

I'm new to the PP side of phtography and I actually enjoy my pics coming alive with some minor tweaks here and there but I would hate it if I felt I had to spend hours trying to make an average shot into a fantastic one because I don't think it can be done - the ingredients have to be there in the first place.

My frustration comes from lack of knowlege and experience in the Canon DPP/Photoshop arena at the minute!!

I can't stand it. Probably a lot to do with my inability to succesfully do anything other than resize, lighten/darken and add a little contrast. I feel as if I'm cheating when I start faffing in photoshop.

I usually enjoy it to a certain extent. Obviously the number of images to be processed has a bearing on how much I enjoy, or whether it is a time consuming PITA.
The way I look at it is that I consider myself a fairly capable tog and appreciate the extra that PP can add to my images.
On the downside, sometimes I dont know when to stop in terms of littles tweaks here and little tweaks there, not knowing whether I have gotten the best out of the image.

I love it - but I keep processing on most images to a minimum. If you spent 30 years in a darkroom with wet chemicals I think you might love it too! PP today is fast, clean and doesn't smell!!

I love it!
For me, pressing the shutter is just the beginning of creating a beautiful image.
If I'm happy with the shot out of camera, then I'm happy to process it, if I'm not happy with the shot out of camera, I'll bin it, simple as that :)

Louise.
