Hi Panda

Technically they should not be asking for the image in Mb size!! I could have a low res image blown up that woluld still look crap!

To get an A3 image I print at 200ppi although many would prefer 300ppi but there's not a big difference as you will likely need to upres to get to 300ppi.

So image size is A3 = 16.535" (420mm) x 11.693" (297mm).

Work out the size in pixels that you need - first at 200ppi

16.535 x 200 = 3307
11.693 x 200 = 2338

So look at the size of image you have in pixels to see how this compares. A 20D produces 3504 x 2336 pixel images so I could print it without resizing at 200ppi.

or at 30ppi

16.535 x 300 = 4960.5
11.693 x 300 = 3507.9

So you'll need to upsize if your image is smaller and you want to achieve a higher res print.

What size is the original image you have (in pixels)?

Cheers
Jim

PS - I work in Glasgow!

thanks eos jd, that was a bit like giraffes testicles, right over my head, but i will pass it onto my mate. sooner he sees the light and signs upto the forums the better.
glasgow eh! about time we had a scottish meet don't ya think?

Haha - Thinmk pixels as that's all that matters. What camera does he have?

Yes a Scottish meet would be fine. I'm on a few forums just now and there's a couple with lots of us.

he has a nikon d200. been all over scotland but seeing as i am driving rarely see any of it, would be good to meet a few like minded people and see some of the country for a change.

THe D200 will print very nice large prints. Almost any size you like.

Correct, the biggest print I've had done with my D50 so far is 16x12 and it will be able to print even bigger than that :)

I've also printed at A3 size with my D50 with good results. Think I may have upsized to 300dpi.

On the subject - where do people go for printing this size (if you don't own an A3 printer that is). After looking around several places, I found Pronta Print to be the cheapest - £2.94 for an A3 print. Anyone got anything cheaper?

Anth.
