Hi All,

I am new to the forum. Last year I did a couple of weddings, which is not normally my thing. I had to send around some hard copy prints in albums as well as having an online album on my website. The problem I had was not being able to put the image numbers on the actual print, so that people could cross reference them when ordering. I could have done them individually in PS but it seemed a lot of extra workflow. In the end I stuck small stickers on the prints and wrote on them (not ideal). Is there an automated way of doing this? there were 200+ prints.....Ian

If you used a company like photobox then the file number is printed on the back of every photo. If yo're printing yourself then I've no idea about automated processes I'm afraid.

Thanks Kev, my only reply. Either this is a tough one or maybe its ignore the newbie.

LOL, it isn't ignore the newbies mate, think its more of a tough one to answer.

You could have added the number in CS2 as you were post processing them, other than that i don't know of any software that allows you to number photos as they print.

Cheers mate, didnt mean to be stropey. I am on CS and have stratched my head on this one for sometime. Back to the stickers I think or steer clear of weddings Lol..

deffo CS job i think

we dont ignore the newbie, unless he asks a really tough question....

In the past I have as a last process renumbered all my shots to make it easy for customers, then use an action print the title of the shot onto the bottom right hand of the picture (which has a large white border on it - so the number is on the border).

Then when I print out the pic has the number on the photo.

The other thing I do is put the pic numbers into an excel sheet so I have the original numbers and the new numbers - so I can go back to the Raw easily if I need to. - Easiest way to get the numbers into excel (that I've found) is via dos DIR *.* >before.txt then after renumbering them (using one of the free renumber tools around - use DIR *.* >after.txt then open both files in Excel and copy one to the other.

Using a Biro is the answer.
Just turn 'em over and write on the back. Cheap and easy.

... dont know of any other way to do it

Thanks guys I like the idea of the excel thing. The problem was that the albums I used for the proofs you could only see the front of the images and not the backs which I had numbers on. I wanted the customer to see the numbers on the front but incorporated in the image.....Ian

Hi Ian - that was the reason I use an action to put the filename onto the front of the pic - as a title. (but I found early on the number has to be simple, and I found using an Alpha Character at the start really useful if you have pics of different things - eg one persons wedding A0000 - A1000, next persons B2000 - B3000 - Cuts down the chance of an error)
