Image galleries - passworded folders?

Right im starting to do a few portrait jobs for friends of friends and im after somewhere i can host their images to show them in a sub gallery which can be passworded just for there viewing.
I know photium do this but i dont really want to pay for the advanced package they offer, would be ideal if i could just email the client a url with a username and password to a simple gallery where they can view the water marked images, so does anyone know of someone that offers this? I know i will have to pay for this.

Have a look at Zenfolio, I'm sure you can do password protected folder with them.
 
Or .htaccess if you want to do it from within your own site.
 
On zenfolio after you have set up a gallery. There is an invite button that sends an invite to who you want. Just add the password for them to the invite.

When they click on the link it takes them straight to the gallery they were invited to. All they do is enter the password and bingo. slideshow or still of all images with next/previous buttons.
