iMac time - help needed

Don't forget, if you already own lightroom, adobe will let you shift the license one way from PC to Mac.

The Lightroom disk has both PC and Mac versions. The serial no is the same for both. Simply install and use the same s/n. There seems to be no one way shift with Lightroom as there is with Photoshop

Hehe, shows you how hard I looked at my lightroom packaging before installing! Thansk for the correction.

Sorry for not replying guys - I've only just received notification of Chappers' reply in post #72 !!!

Some interesting comments there again - thanks all :)

I don't have LR3 as yet, but all my Pro mates use & swear by it - hence there's plenty of help to hand with that one, I don't know anyone using Aperture

Oh - and last night the Apple peeps suggested delivery as being the 27th - this morning I have notification that its on a van for delivery today!!!

Now if the machine is that fast I'll be happy :D

Re the Aperture/Lightroom debate.

Being a bit of an Apple fanboy, I tried desperately hard to love Aperture but just kept on going back to Lightroom. Aperture just doesn't pack the same punch as LR and Adobe will always be a step ahead of Apple in the photography software stakes in my opinion.

Yup it's finder, I found that using a mac was too simple after using windows. You just don't expect to be able to install a program without the 20 questions.

Yes, it's finder. What are you struggling with?

Simple things - like going up a level, creating new folders to copy to, and even selecting lots of images at once - sometimes the shift key seems to let you highlight them all sometimes it doesn't - just seems a bit less obvious than Explorer

Just takes a little getting used to. New folder is just Right Click & New folder. Click & drag works best for selecting multiple files, Shift has never worked for me (Possibly one function that I miss).

To be fair, everything is going to be less obvious at the moment

Ha - starting to make sense of it now. Some 'views' you can highlight it all in and some you cannot - also you have to drag stuff to the trash rather than simply hit a delete key - yes???

DD

Yep, delete key doesn't do anything. You can also right click & Move to Trash

quick tip, for deleting highlighted files just use cmd and backspace keys

there is a place on Apple's website for new users migrating its here

TBH, it will all fall into place, you have to forget everything to do with the Micro$oft way of doing things, they are archaic. Welcome to the 21st century and enjoy your new kit

Command uses the same function as shift if trying to highlight multiiple images.

Sorry to pick up on thus, maybe because I'm in pain and grumpy this morning..

Really?

Right click new folder vs right click new folder

Drag to trash vs drag to recycle bin

Cmd delete vs delete

Clearly archaic

It's a wysiwyg interface they all work in pretty much the same way just different layouts..

Sorry but comments like that annoy me.

And relax Neil...

Just remember that Mac users have to Windows-bash as they have to justify their purchases ;)

I have to say I use shift-delete is my most often used method of deleting (warning: this just deletes the file, without sending it to the recycle bin). CBA having to empty the recycle bin every now and again. If I want a file deleted, I want it DELETED!

I thought it was a joke that you photographed your computer

Way too busy for that at the mo

A joke? When shiny computer pron is involved?

Its deadly serious! look at arad's thread with all of the pictures of the shiny innards of his new one!

Its wierd I know but its the computer geek in me. ;)

Well folks - as if proof were needed of getting away from a pc...

I did just photograph the iMac for you lot, edited it on the pc (CS5 not on my Imac as yet) closed CS5 and the f-ing pc completely locked up needing a reboot - which it is still doing :(

Photo WILL follow shortly :)

Especially for Jim :D

The rather girlie bits close to it are because for now, and until I'm 100% on it, its running in my daughter's bedroom (she's at Uni). The gripped D300 is for scale - big b****r innit :)

Happy :D

DD

Yay! Shame the pic is spoiled by that big black lump at the bottom left.

Very happy otherwise! ;)

You sados :shake::shake::shake:

Get a life - get a Nikon

Moving from pc to mac is like moving from a Skoda to a Lexus; but moving from Canon to Nikon is like moving from a bicycle to a Ferrari :D

DD

You are right, I might find it difficult to drive a ferrari through wimbledon common, therefore canon are best! :p

There are always times when an inferior product can be useful - for example, a few months ago a friend of mine handed me his 5DmkII and I found it chocked my car wheels beautifully on the steep hill we were on

Unfortunately the crap build quality meant it was fubar :shake:

Does this need to go on???

Not really. As you have just surrendered, we will all agree that canon and PCs are best! ;)
