When I brought my iMac in September 2011 it came with 4gb of memory. Ordered some 16gb of memory from Crucial. Just fitted it. Didn't work first time. Can be a bit fiddly to make sure the memory units fit in snuggly but now I have a machine with 16gb of memory!!!
Not sure what I'm going to do now with the 2x2gb memory!!!!
