Imac screen issue

Don't know how dust could have got there really. It does line up exactly with a tweetdeck divider bar which make me think it could be burn in.

Will check out apple care and see if it is on site. Really don't have the energy to lug this thing all the way to Sheffield or Manchester. Laptop is on the blink too so I cannot be without the desktop.

well, if you are confident enough to remove the front glass [I did on mine, but it was a 4 yr old machine, so less 'stressful' if it had gone pear shaped], that would allow a clearer view to work out whether its dust behind that glass, or something on/in the actual monitor itself. I know Marcel had dust ingree issue on his a year or two ago, so it does happen, that glass is not 'air tight' but if it is screen burn, it shouldn't be happening and needs to be dealt with by Apple under warranty.

It's a very weird mark. It almost looks like something has dripped in but I only use a slightly damp cloth on the front.

If you choose a really light colour it disappears! It doesn't show up for black either. Greys, blues etc it's really noticeable. Can't be on the glass. Must be a fault with the lcd display. Bum bum bum bum bum!

Didn't one of the other mods have a similar issue (I want to say DF)? I seem to remember its a common issue with those screens. He ended up getting a replacement.

Time for a trip back to the apple store.

DF had a thin red line his newer iMac screen, 18mth old, Marcel like I say had dust followed by screen burn issues, but his was a bit older iirc...

I guess one question is can you see it when turned off, have a good wiggle around in the light, make sure it totally vanishes when off [my old one has a similar mark top l/h corner, but its on the rear of the glass, looks like some kind of coating has come off, I couldn't clean it off but very visible when turned off, but only visible against certain colours when on]
I know its a faff, but it does look like its a return to Apple issue :(

Yay. Apple Care say I can take it to the authorised service people who are 10 minutes away from me. Might get them to glance at my wonky macbook while I'm there :)

Weirder and weirder. I've been using the flurry screensaver (normally only blank it) and the mark has all but disappeared!!

Unless it is some bizarre thing which is only visible under daylight and not CFLs it's disappeared as fast as it has arrived. Think I'll hold off before doing anything yet.
