I am thinking about getting an Imac to replace my PC, however I have a few questions and hope some people on here will be able to answer them.

I have a few photo editing programs that I have purchased for my PC eg PSE 7, Photomatix and Noiseware. Now is it a simple procedure of using the software key that I currently have and just downloading the Mac version to my Mac if I get one and using the software key or will I have to buy a complete new key for Mac software, if that makes any sense?
 
Not had that problem, use Mac all the time. I understand that you probably won't need to buy it all over again, hopefully you can 'swap' over - check out the websites.
 
your software key won't work for mac, I think you'll have to buy the software again

Adobe DO let you transfer licences ONCE although the older Adobe software uses the SAME keys ie CS2's PC and Mac keys are the same and interchangeable you just need to download the DEMO version and install your key. Hope this helps.

Oh and if you do get an iMac check the top tips link in my signature.

A lot of the software you might buy for the PC is unnecessary, very cheap or included.

Some treat is as an upgrade so you pay the upgrade price instead.
 
Elements 7 may be an issue though, I'm pretty sure they never made a Mac version of Elements 7, you may have to upgrade to Elements 8?

No, Elements are out of sync. I think the latest Mac version is 6 which is equivalent to 8. You would have to check Adobe's site.
 
The latest elements version 8 has a mac option. I have just moved from a PC to an IMac. 27"'s of wonderful!
 
Photomatrix & Noiseware both transfer OK, as I did OK when I moved to Mac last year, LR uses the same S/N but you have to get a new key from Adobe for CS4. Not sure PSE 7

agreed, I purchased a copy of PSE8 for mac but the key also worked for the trial version I had on my PC :D
 
Is there still the 6bit vs 8bit panel issue that there was with the old 20"/24" iMacs?
 
I was sure I was getting a 21.5" until I was in the new apple shop in Newcastle the other day and I was getting major screen envy!!! Honestly we have nowhere to put the 27" screen, unless we build a extension!!

That new shop in Newcastle is sooo busy! I was jealous by the shiny new screens as I have a 2 year old 20" iMac.

20" is still pretty amazing but if I had the choice again I would probably get a larger screen to view my images in full without scrolling down or re-sizing.

You'll enjoy an iMac and never go back to PC... trust me!
 
Definately go for the 27". My son just got the 21" & was really happy until he came back home saw my 27" working PS & a music editing software, his G/F now blames me for showing him the difference. Is that not Dad's are for

Hehe you sound just like my Son's G/F. Apparently he was in the Apple Shop again in Manchester seeing exactly how much discount he could get for a Uni-Student & working ou how much he could sell his 21inch Imac. His G/F was cussing me to my wife last night:lol:
