iMac pro

I think it's new iMac you can see the specs on apples site

Not the new iMac but the new Mac Pro in the form of an iMac. Beasty spec. Expensive.

Unless you're a pro video editor an iMac (which have just been upgraded) will be more than adequate.

e.
You're right in a way but it's still an iMac. The new Mac Pro has been announced for next year.

Surely it's just a 5k iMac with an upgraded processor and graphics card?

Wouldn't that analogy be closer to an MX-5 with a Ferrari engine in it?

The key difference being the degree to which other internals (data bus speeds, multiple parallel data channels) are also upgraded to take advantage of the increased throughput, or will the MX-5 clutch and suspension limit the increase in performance?

also i predict that thing is going to get hot and throttle back pretty easily..

35°C max operating environment like the rest of apples kit, and we all know how hot they run even with mobile class CPU.

It;s designed for fairly intensive applications such as VR and Ai development. I don't see it as a main stream machine but for those who are developing applications that need a lot of processing power. Maybe useful for some video processing but I can't see it being used for most mainstream applications. MacPro is due for a revamp, but that's not going to be till next year according to "Apple sources" I suspect the design will change so that the Pro will be more upgradable

Apparently they have a whole new 'Thermal Architecture" . We'll just have to wait and see

From what I've read, it's the same Xeon from the current Mac Pro, not even an i9. And as above, it'll throttle too quickly anyway. It might have a better cooler than the rest of the iMac lineup, but I'm very sceptical on whether or not it'll be able to move enough air to stay cool when doing long term tasks.
