Anyone got any input into how good the iMac computers are? Been told they are fantastic when it comes to art work such as photo editing etc....
 
The computer is only as good as the software - the iMac will come with iPhoto which is a very easy to use (albeit basic) photo editor. Very good for cataloguing too.
 
Well I was bought an iMac before christmas my husband works in IT and like me always used Windows. I have been really impressed with it I easily understood the mac way. I think I am using far more stuff on this I love the app store would never go back to pc now. If I come across a problem I can sort it out without asking hubby or sons which I am well proud of . My husband is now getting one for himself. I definitely recommend the mac
 
They are very glossy. If you need to brush your hair or apply make up you don't even need a mirror.

On a more serious note, a mac mini and a decent Dell IPS screen is a much nicer package with a little saving too.
 
It's the apps that do the processing and generally most are available for both PC and Mac (the exception being the apple software). Personally, I hate the UI, but your mileage may vary. Macs use mid-high end PC hardware these days, so as long as you're comparing like with like, there should be very little in it from the hardware viewpoint... The way the UI works is down to personal preference.
 
Aside from the usual pros and cons of Apple vs Windows, the main focus is customer service should you need them, and retained value 3, 4, 5 years down the line.
If I were to sell my 21.5" iMac, it'd be worth about £500-550 (going on eBay completed prices) - not bad for a 3 year old machine that cost £949.

Compare that to a Dell/HP setup of similar cost, and I'd lay good odds on both barely selling for £350-400.
So before anyone fills your head full of "more expensive for the same 'stuff' " rhetoric, understand the cost of ownership is offset in favour of your pocket.

There are others, which iirc, PC World (the US magazine) did something similar, that may even pre-date the linked article.
 
They are quite nice machines although I would prefer an even higher resolution screen and possibly larger too. I was a big fan of the old 30" displays of Apple and Dell. There are some pluses such as usb3 and thunderbolt. Which make/will make connection of stuff quicker in the future. The thunderbolt socket even allows me to use the iMac as an external monitor for my retina MacBook Pro :)

Completely agree with the sentiment although I prefer the ui to windows. You just need to try both fully then make a decision. I know someone who has the last of the previous generation 27" iMacs and he uses windows 7 then his wife reboots into macos ......

No, I'm lying in bed with suspected meningitis or some other nasty bug at the moment :eek:

I will agree with you when it's the right thing to do. You must admit though that a lot of your earlier posts did not come across as well as they do now :thumbs:

Either I've become more relaxed about things (unlikely knowing me ;)) or there's fewer posts that I react badly to. Now... speculating on what's happening there could be an interesting discussion ;) :D

I think most people realise now that Macs are good quality PCs and when compared to good quality PCs they are quite close. It would be the same comparing a Tesco's special against a Sony Vaio etc. We know all the arguments so not bringing any of them up now.

I run all 3 major OSes and several others too so I can appreciate the good bits of all. I happen to prefer MacOS now but if they merge IOS and MacOS I might end up back on Windows, who knows! I would go to Linux but I like the way that I can seemlessly create stuff on desktop, iPad and phone plus I'd miss CS suite and other packages not available for linux. The thing I miss most about Windows is the hardware hacking part. If I could run MacOS on a machine I built myself without all the hassle around it then I would build a monster with a arduino powered touch screen display etc
