Be very careful, there are number of scammers around now with code generators, they seem to work fine and even register on the apple site. It's only when you come to actually use the Care that it is noticed it is not legit.

The advice on a selling forum I use is to only buy the codes with retail pack (if there is a future problem, apple ask for details from the pack).
 
I got it direct from apple at a vastly reduced price thanks to my little sis's studebt discount. Not sure, but should work on this product alone. Worth a call into the shop IMO (if you have family with Student Discount that is)

Yes the code you register with Apple works but when you come to use it a few other people will have the same code and it won't work.

There is something on eebay about how it works.
Steer well clear and use a proper shop.

This is definitely correct, I do know of a person who has had that unfortunate happening, standing in the Apple store and being told that the Care code is duplicated and that the other person is in possession of the retail box so is the legal owner, they were then refused service.

Always buy a retail box code, never something with digital delivery as the buyers like to call it.

I've bought AppleCare several times from ebay without retails boxes AND I've successfully had work carried out.

Scaremongering for the sake of it.......................

yeah but someone with the retail box and same code as you obviously hadnt needed work done. when they do and you go to use it again ..... you're screwed. simples
 
I recall a similar thread on here, probably a couple years ago or more, that concluded ebay number-only Applecare purchases were OK as long as you checked the seller's reputation.

Nope, no scaremongering at all, you have just been lucky the real owner of the code didn't need to use it before you.

I would rather not take that chance, it's hardly scaremongering to say a person should ensure they get the full retail box.

You may buy applecare from ebay and it will most likely work.

But theres been a recent change in apple policy. They will not register the applecare plan until you forward all the documentation, which is the actual package and a purchase receipt from an authorised apple reseller
 
Ah that's changed then.

I bought mine from eBay in 09 sometime, from a seller in Ireland IIRC.
Good reputation etc.
Registered it fine.

I've even used it before now too.

I can't find anything on the Apple site to indicate this :shrug: They still say that you may register an AppleCare plan either online or by telephone. And they state that the registration may not show (online) for up to 24 hours. This suggests that nothing has to be sent by post. No?

Since when? I bought mine around 3 weeks ago and didn't have to do this.

I tried to register an applecare last week. they wouldnt register until i'd sent a scan of the actual plan (registration number) and an invoice for the same from an apple authorised reseller.

Not had an issues in the past

THat's how I got mine, bought a MBP at the same time as well as a printer, but the discount was £224 meaning I only paid £55.

Give apple a ring on their freephone number and ask if you can buy it on it's own under the student scheme. Worth it if you can get it ;)
 
Hmmmm MacBook Pro is out of warranty in next few weeks, should look in to this Apple Care thinking about it! Be a shame if they have changed the policy now to make it harder to get cheaper!

yup i got done over with the .me side of things ie the me account - email etc
