Imac 27 vs 21.5

I'm looking to buy an iMac for home/ personal use & a bit of editing on Apples aperture 3 software (non professionally)

I have looked at them both in store but still can't decide whether to splash out on the 27, My wife thinks its too big (I don't) or go for the 21.5 inch?

Is a 21.5 inch big enough for photo editing? Is the 27 inch going to make it much more enjoyable? I don't know why it's such a hard decision for me :D

Feedback from anyone who's been in this circumstance & made a decision would be appreciated (regretted or not)

I went for the 21.5 about this time last year. Would have loved the 27 (still do) but there is huge price difference. I spent the change on ram, photoshop and aperture. If you can afford it go for the 27 but the 21.5 is no hardship.
 
I had a similar dilemma but decided on the 27 and have never looked back. Absolutely fantastic to use and you can sit in front of it for hours....properly in love with mine :love:
 
Definitely the 27". You'll deeply regret the 21.5 eventually. The panel in the 27 is absolutely fantastic.
 
I'd better give the wife the bad news :D

I'd probably be wishing I'd bought the 27 if I didn't.

I had a 20" white intel Imac and have just changed to a new 27" and the difference is fantastic, if you can afford it go for the 27" but if you want more ram don't buy from apple.
 
I got a refurb 27 i5 and don't regret it for a second!!!
I upgraded the RAM myself (Crucial) in a matter of seconds with another pair of 4Gb.
I don't know how I'd cope with a smaller one now I'm used to the 27
 
If you can afford a 27 buy a 27 screen real estate is really great to have. I have a 27" dell for my PC which I use often connected to my Macbook and it is so liberating having all that space and pixels to play with.

If that was the case then you should be suggesting a PC + a 27" dell...

Sorry I think there are other significant advantages to buying an iMac apart from the 27" screen but never mind :)
 
Always get the very biggest you can afford. It can't be too big. Editing can be done on 21", and in fact I do it on my 20" (and keep thinking about the next bigger monitor). The only issue with imacs is exctremely glossy and very irritating panel. I couldn't stand it for day personally.
 
Having been spoiled with the 30" on our Mac Pro for the last 4 years I can highly recommend having that extra space to work with, it's just wonderful to work with!
 
Another way to look at it, I have the 24" (largest when I bought) and now it's out of warranty was thinking of changing it for a new MBP but because I have gotten used to the 24" screen I don't think i can face going back to a small screen. Might not have been so bad if I'd had a 20" for the last 4 years!

That's why it's best to get pro screen + mbp = win!
 
I had the choice of both but plumped for the 21.5" simply due to ergonomics. My computer space is fairly limited and getting the 27" would have literally been a pain the neck - or involved getting a bigger desk/house.

You also mentioned getting it for Aperture? Have you had a look at Lightroom 4? I only mention it because I bought my Mac for photos/video too - and bought Aperture 3. I recently switched to LR4 which, IMO, is much, much better (although I expect this has been discussed elsewhere in these forums).
 
Couldn't you get quite a workhouse PC AND an external 30" screen for the price of 27" iMac?

Worked on an iMac, reflections annoyed the hell out of me. Funny thing, German law doesn't even allow them in a workplace due to inadequate ergonomics.
