I have taken delivery of my new D5. I have been using CS6, but it can't read the D5's RAW files. It would appear Adobe no longer support the RAW reader and I wont be able to use CS6 anymore.
So, I have subscribed to the new Creative cloud. It has downloaded Lightroom straight away. No problems. But Photoshop? A nightmare!!!!

I have tried for so many hours now, that I am completely and utterly at a loss. I have read so many things online, that I am confused.

It starts to download Photoshop cc. gets to about 48% and says 'extracting'. freezes for a few seconds and then looks like it is downloading ok again. gets to about 75% and then the download just crashes!!!
Then under Apps, photoshop is still listed as 'install'.

I jest not. I am going mad!!!!

If anyone can make sense of the above, can you please help me in laymans terms, to resolve this.

Kev.

I've had updates stall several times, is it possible that it's simply a question of D5 release/holiday means more people are hogging the servers?
In the meantime try converting the nef files to dng and you will be able to open them in CS6.

Maybe so gramps. Getting seriously annoyed. ;)

I was quite content with CS6. Didn't realise that they had stopped supporting it.

I think you can still get Camera RAW 9.5 for CS6. That supports D5 RAW files. The Adobe DNG converter is apparently not the best conversion possible. I use CS4 and can't open my X-T1 RAF files. I use Iridient Developer to convert them and export to PS.

Fairly sure that I read somewhere that CS6 support only goes to 9.1 I will have another look.

Thanks.

Are there any error messages written to the Windows 7 event logs?

Can you download the install file & save it to your hard disk, then execute it with admin authority?

Worth a look but Gramps is probably right. Iridient gives a very nice conversion, though so is an option if you don't want a subscription.

Happy to subscribe. Already am. It just wont download. :(

Well, after many hours of trying different things, I still can't download it. I have even used that 'chat' feature on Adobes site. got nowhere. It downloaded LR ok, but wont download Photoshop.
Pretty miffed to be honest. I paid good money for CS6 extended. Shame it can't accept Raw 9.5
At the moment I am having to use a dng converter and then opening in CS6. Not the best/easiest way to do it.

Bit of a pain but maybe something has just thrown the installation.
Try using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove all of the CC installation, which will allow you to start again from complete scratch ... follow everything in the following tutorial to ensure every trace is removed before re-installing.

Strange indeed. Give Iridient a trial. You have an option to "save and open in Photoshop" which at least cuts out one step. The conversions are very good, too, much better than Adobe DNG Converter.

I will give it a try. Hope it handles D5 files....

What does "the download crashes" mean exactly?

Does it just hang with the progress at 75% or does the cc app crash?

Try temporarily stopping your av protection during the install, in works enterprise av there is a specific bypass policy to prevent issues.

Can you load the files into Capture NX-D?

I have tried that, a few times.

It reaches about 75%, then the screen changes to a rotating circle for a while. Then it shows, Photoshop in the install list. Not installed list.
Sometimes it is in the installed list, but when you try to open it, it says

Some of the application components are missing from the application directory. Please reinstall the application.

Done that at least 50 times now. :(

Could you maybe download it to an external HD and then copy it across?

I have now managed to get Photoshop CC to install fully. Not sure how. I did install Quicktime 7. Maybe that helped?

BUT, when I try to open my D5 raw files in LR and Photoshop CC, the Raw editor screen comes up, but just a blue screen with diagonal lines across.

It shows the image number, lens details etc. But no image.

Help. I am almost there!!

Good luck with it, Kevin. Can't even offer rubbish advice from here on out as I'm using CS4. Hope you get it sorted.

At the top left of the RAW Editor screen (ACR) does it show Camera Raw 9.5?

Sorted!!!!! Needed to untick something in preferences. :) :)

4 days!!!!

I hope the photos will be worth it!

May be your chance to investigate cool alternatives!

You've got the OnOne suite already…
Three years ago I switched to Capture One and not
looking back. I switched to Affinity Photo as pixel editor,
no way back either.

This is just another way to make you convert your RAWs
to DNGs… that would be a bad move!
