Loads of stuff you can take pics of, been there many a time, love the place.

Obviously you can do the usual stuff such as Charles Bridge, Charles Square with the old clock and church, also there is a park to the north over the river where you will see a pendulum IIRC which has some nice views over the city. Also if you have time I would recommend Petrin Tower but only if you are OK with heights, its to the west over teh river, you should be able to see it from anywhere as its on a big hill in some gardens, also has a hall of mirrors if thats your thing. Also the museum area isnt bad with some oportunities for some snaps.

Otherwise the city has changed quite a lot, I havent been for a couple of years but there are some nice bars, good food etc etc, although I will be hard pressed to remember any names or locations, I would say that any within a walking radius of the main square are fairly good.

Im fairly sure prices for things like beer and food have gone up a lot, I was there first in the late 90's and it was very cheap, but now (at least in the square area) you are approaching £2 a pint, but if you venture further afield it will most likely be below £1 I imagine. (I was in the east of the Cz Rep and beer was 30p a pint for nice stuff like Staropramen, Budvar etc.)

Hope you have a nice trip, the whole city is very nice to take pics of, and its all within reasonable walking distances or you can get the trams or metro which are fairly cheap, but have confusing ticket systems so be careful as they usually have police checking tickets on the metro.

James :)

thanks for that mate very interesting...

Enjoy, I've got a flight and accomodation there in august, not as up for it as I was so hopefully your pics ;) will inspire me :D

I'd say that Laterna Magika is worth a visit. The building itself is very interesting - the concept is that you are inside the magic lantern whilst the performance unfolds. Google around for more info as my link doesn't give the best impression. Some of the repertoires are better than others and I'd suggest giving "Matador" a miss but these things are very subjective so please don't take my word as gospel :) There's some Bauhaus furniture in there which you are welcome to loaf around on and might like to photograph. Entry to the building is free of charge although I don't know what the opening times are.

Another interesting edifice to photograph is the "Fred and Ginger" building. Just by the by and a long story for another time, on my first visit to Prague I was told by my driver to look out for "the gingerbread building" which I took to be a Hansel and Gretel style place. It wasn't!

Good food, beer and photo ops to be found at U Kalicha (the goose they serve here is particularly good) and U Fleků

The Astrological Clock and The Church of Our Lady Before Tyn are both very photogenic, as are most things situated in the vicinity of the Old Town Square (I think Kafka's house and the street upon which it is situated make very interesting subject matter: "Inside the Hradcany complex, tiny 16th century working class homes hug narrow cobbled roads. During the winter of 1916, Franz Kafka wrote many of his stories while living with his sister on 22 Zlata ulicka").

If you're not ashamed to be moved to tears in public, see if you can get a look around the crypt of Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral. I've asked and always been allowed to take photographs. Being in the crypt where the resistance parachutists underwent their ordeal and subsequently met their demise then going outside and seeing the bullet holes.....too moving for words :'(

The best panorama of the city (IMHO) is from Cowboys - a good lunch venue. Ignore the chavvy name. The food is great, interior of the historic building also great and the view from the upper terrace....wow! It's on the way up the hill to the Castle and en route you get to take in not only the Cathedral of St Vitus (fabulous light coming in through the stained glass windows and free entry) but some good doorways too; that of the Italian Consulate is my favourite.

Hope this is useful, sorry for going on and posting so many links but wishing your travels to Prague every bit as enjoyable as my own (and looking forward to the photos!)

My invites and free of charge visits to The Czech Republic are courtesy of the Swedish Ambassador to Mongolia who lives in Prague - go figure that!

^^^ what they said :)
I was going to wade in with my wealth of knowledge but it seems I was beaten to it :p To be honest I haven't done much of the tourist stuff since being here (for a *cough* year and a half).

But steer clear of Vaclavske namesti and Staromestske namesti, they are full of tourists, strip bar peddlers and overpriced tat (only go there when you don't care about culture, want to get ratted and look at boobies ;)). The prices of beer there are insane too, one cafe in Staromestske namesti I looked in on was charging 99Kc (£3.25) for a beer  Take a little walk, find a less touristy looking bar and the prices should be closer to 20Kc (65p) for 0.5l :)

I'm afraid the pound is taking a hammering against the crown so you'll only get around 30.5 for a pound now, it was around 40 a year ago so things here aren't as cheap as they used to be for people coming from abroad so be prepared to spend a little more than people who have been here more than a yea rago recommend.

Of all the places I like the Petrin tower is the best for views, the Metronome also has a good view of the city (and is only a few mins from my flat and Sparta's stadium), another good place to get a good view is the Zizkov TV tower with the wierd baby sculptures on.

If there is anything specific you need I can probably let you know :)

super mate you may get a pm..:naughty:

thanks

No worries :)

oh and make a visit to Centrum Fotoskoda just off Vaclavske namesti (by the tram stops). It's a photography shop but it has a free camera museum on the ground floor with a large collection. They have a Canon rangefinder with the 50mm f/0.95 lens on, it's a huge amount of glass.

Unfortunately you won't get a bargain there as the prices in the UK are much lower but it's something you can't miss :)
