Western Oz that is not Scotland....................

Ok i've done a seach and can see that a few guys on here are from Perth WA, and I see a few Poms have visited, but I'm wondering what there is to see?

I'm only there for a week in November for a wedding, and travelling will be a bit limited. I think the trains, buses and Trams are quite probably the limit of travel so I'm looking for ideas and areas to visit / tog within the Perth area?

Any ideas? Cheers!!!

PS I'm so damn excited....I'm looking forward to the travelling too.

Hey Steve, few things I can thnk of straight away:

Kings Park (great views of the city and Swan river, good spot at night)
South Perth (again great views of the city and you get great reflections on the river at night)
Any one of the hundreds of beaches for sunsets.
Perth Zoo is a good day out, or maybe just half a day actually, catch the ferry across the Swan river to South Perth from the city and its a 5 min walk when you get off the ferry.

What sort of photography do you like?

Hey Steveo,

Thanks for the ideas.

I'm too early into my photography to have any kind of specific taste. However, there's going to be some beach visit, ferry also. I'd like to find a good vantage of the Perth skyline as there are a couple of interesting builings by the looks of it.

I didn't know there was a zoo there so that's a good idea, and i was thinking of going somewhere around Swan river and Freemantle if it's worth it.

Much of the photography will be based around what there is rather than knowing what i like and looking for it if that makes sense?

After almost 4 months in the UK, I'm leaving this weekend, on my way back home to Perth! I miss the sunshine.

Looks like Steveo has mentioned them all already!
I love going to Kings Park. You get a great view of the Perth city skyline and Swan River from there, by day or by night :)
I'd also second the suggestion of South Perth, across the river from the city - you could easily walk there or get the ferry.
I like walking around the grounds of UWA, it doesn't compare with old buildings in UK, but something that feels unique to Perth.
Fremantle is also another place I like going to, just for the wander-about and taking photographs of anything that interests me.

o hai A DAM~ After almost 4 yrs away from the UK, i miss the country and the bitter cold.

U forgot Burswood!

Burswood casino looks like an interesting place to photograph on the outside. I've read that there have been people being approached by guards telling them not to take the photograph, but if it interests you, you might as well take a shot at it :)

Excellent Guys!!

All noted, and hopefully put into my plans:thumbs:

I've stayed in the Burswood complex several times and not had problems taking photographs in the grounds.

The sunshine has arrived here! It was 31 degrees yesterday and is forecast for the same today.

Maybe we should try and organise a mini meet if there are a few of us here?

Hi, SteveJB,
You lucky so-and-so! I spent some time in Perth 25 years or so ago, and it would be great to see pictures of the place as it is now. Have a great time! Also, I would love to know if the Swan (river) is still full of jellyfish.
Andy.

Yes there is still plenty of Jelly fish in the Swan.

This is what it looks like from South Perth....

Hey guys, ^^^^^^ That's the kind of shot i'm looking to get.

Although I could save a whole load on flight cost and just ask Steveo to email the pic!! :D

mmmmmm, 31 degrees...[Note to self; remember my Sunnies and swimming gear]

As for getting pics of the place, i'm hoping 8gb of memory (approx 960 shots) and half a dozen films will suffice! I should have a couple worth posting on here when i get back.
