Hello,

I've a Canon Eos500d , which I bought back in July. Very pleased with it, I just need to know how to get some better pix from it
I also bought a Tamron 70-300mm lens.

After always liking taking photos.. I'm used to compact point/shoot. Canon Ixus 90is is my pocket camera, been pleased with the results from that, but felt restricted.

I like taking night photos so needed a better camera that i could alter shutter speeds etc.

The 500D was a good price back in July 2011.

I've been on Andy Wallis' GroupOn photography course in Nottm, which helped a lot on getting the know your camera and experimenting with shots. He also now runs a monthly evening photography class for a few hours where us wanna be photographers go to hear guest speakers talk about various types of photography etc etc. It a great help and its all good fun.

After last weeks meeting... I'm now wanting a Flashgun... looking at a Nissin Di622 mkII

has anyone got any pointers for me?

Hey there Phil and welcome to TP.

With regards to the Nissin, can I suggest that, if possible, save a few more pennies and get the Di866 mk 2 if you can. It is an excellent flash for the money and you won't be disappointed :).

cheers guys.

Dave,
some of my stuff so far... trying out light painting and altering shutter speeds...

Andy, what is the advantage of going the next step up on the nissin?

I find it really hard to get good shots of cars at car shows I attend, either over or under exposed.. too dark or too light. Very fustrating, when i do think its right the next shot is two steps backwards

Phil,
The Nissin Di866 mk2 is the equivalent of Canons 580EX2 and Nikons SB 900 but considerably cheaper. I'm assuming it will be your first flash and as such will offer you more than the next model down.
