Well it's official, I'm married to a Fraudster :runaway:

He got an email this morning telling him he is a Fraudster and all he has to do to rectify this is send $10000 to The united bank of Africa along with his email address, full name and address. (All in lower case)

What a relief...:exit:
 
Why should we believe you? This may be a scam to gain our sympathy - watch it folks! :)
 
No problem. Just send me your account details & I'll have to to you right away. :D

I had one of those, I did not realise until then that the British government used a sky.com web address :confused:
 
I should be able to send you the money soon because an email I received a couple of days ago. It informed me that a bank in Ghana has $5,000,000 which are owed to me but the bank are being very slow in sorting it out. The gentleman who sent me the email has taken up this delay with Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who has personally looked at my predicament and has agreed to ensure I get my money. All I need to do is send my details, and probably a handling fee, and I'll get my money, so I should be able to help out. Fancy, Ban Ki-Moon looking out for me!

More seriously is there evidence that any of the 419 scams or their variants ever con anyone?

Well just added up the promises of my spam folder, and if i collect them all, looks like I am set for about US$200m.

Wow thanks Dave :plus1: Good old Ban Ki-Moon eh? It must be you who he was singing to recently when he took to the stage singing "Santa a Clause is Coming to Town" You lucky devil you. :clap:
 
I had one last week,I would have been entitled to a cool £500 000 if I (and I quote) "run down to the Western Union exchange" with my bank details for the deposit,clearly this dude does'nt realise I don't do running,I would have had to walk but would have probably missed his offer for being too slow.
 
Thought that type of scam had finished, looks as if its starting up again
 
I'm feeling left out... Do you think it could be because I never sent the fee for the last $20,000,000 the Deposed President's family were going to send me for helping them get the money out of the country? Oh dear... perhaps I'm on a blacklist.

Yes shedloads of evidence. People are desperate / stupid / naive / a combination of... check out 419eater.com
 
It will cost you far to much in postage. Send it to me instead.
 
I once had a Hitman tell me he would not do the hit if I paid him more. I spent about a week winding him up, tracked his ip address, telling him he'd made a mistake, threatening one of the 'family', great fun...

Though the worrying aspect of all these scams is the many vulnerable/fragile people who would gullible or frightened.

On a serious note, there is a scam going around that depends on some phones not cutting the caller off immediately the call is ended. The scammer calls saying they are your bank, and urges you to call the number on the back of your card. The call then ends. This sounds pretty legit, but in fact a scammer is still on the line, poses as your bank, and asks for account details. Either leave calling for some time, or use a different phone is the advice.

Thats austerity for you ;) - I was more concerned that HMRC couldnt spell revenue ... or according to the email I got "Revinew"
 
These have never gone away because they rely on greed - like most scams - and the perception that you're going to get very rich through a dodgy deal in a foreign country which doesn't really amount to a "crime". The victim basically hooks himself. The setup costs are minimal and you'll always get some interest if you target enough people.

The scams aren't just about conning banking details out of the victims either, and they're a lot more dangerous than that. The next step is persuading the victim to visit Nigeria or South Africa on the pretext of finalising the arrangements, and kidnap for ransom. Some victims have been murdered.

indeed - and one day 419eater is going to blow up in someones face... these people who they are baiting and humiliating aren't just random Nigerians with a dodgy internet connection - they are violent criminals with links to organised crime, no one in their right mind would set out to bait the yardies, or the triads, or the yakuza, or the mafia (Russian or Italian) , but because they feel safe behind their computers people do take the p*** out of those behind the 419 scams ... one day one of them is going to call his cousin in London, or put out a contract... and then mr keyboard warrior is going to have stepped into a very dangerous world with very nasty consequences.

The best thing to do with these scams is just to delete them out of hand (or run an effective spam filter)
 
I recently had an 'hmrc' email telling me I have ovepaid tax, not very convincing, especially when I work in payroll!
