i'm fuming.....

I would say you were in the right to smash his face in, clearly they started it and you would have got away with self defence.

I personally would have battered him with my elbows as I have no patience for doyles like this......and I get agressive quite quickly lol

Err, he didn't smash his face in, he kicked him in the nuts. If he had smashed his face in he probably wouldn't have been able to call it self defence.

Hi Stan. Glad you and your kit are Ok. I may have told you about when I was confronted while out with my gear by four youths about 17/18. One was armed with a chisel and another with a crowbar. I managed to talk my way out of it and called the old bill. I knew where they hung out and the copper arrester two of them. Cut a long story short 2 were sent down and one was given a suspended sentence, the other was never found.
Stan good on you for what you did I only wish I could have done the same.
One thing I don't think has been mentioned is that it is unwise to take these (think of the strongest swear word and insert here). Is it worth losing your life over your camera equipment. I am sure if I had argued or threatened them I would either be in hospital or the ground.
For weeks after I would not go to a public place with my gear and still avoid places where there might be drugged up youths.
All the best Stan
Dai

hi dai,and a happy new year to you mate....i agree mate,no camera is worth loosing a life over, but if you let the little scrotes get away with it,they will continue to terrorise innocent people going about their own business.it's probably the fact i'm trained in self defence that gave me the confidence to go and approach them like i did,but i honestly didn't expect one of them to take a punch at me...my reaction was a natural one bourne out of years of self defence training.the gnoll is one of the nicest parks in our area, and one where you never normally see these types of youth,as it's very family orientated.i will,however..stay away for the time being...and wait until the weather improves when there will be lots of people around again, and these type of scrotes won't be seen for dust.

I havn't read all of posts but this would almost certainly considered as an affray by the police, not that they would persue such a minor incident too much.

Throwing snowballs can be considered an assault, technically battery in this case, as assault is the fearing of immediate harm / danger (which means that OP would have needed to have seen snowballs coming) and battery is the committing of the physical act.

Self-defence is probably a decent enough defence to the OP's assault (a kick square in the nuts) if it isn't considered an over the top reaction to the strike he received by the scally on the chin.

That's the legal stuff... it is highly annoying these days how kids really get off on trying to annoy or attack others without provocation. And they do it with such regularity aswell!

   @ both of those!

You know something Colin, it creases me when yobs do that. Walk up being hard, arms wide open unable to defend themselves and legs wide open just ready for a swift knee/kick/punch in the goolies.Head right next to thier "victims" ready for a severe headbutt, bloody muppets.....Well `ard stance.

I didn't say he did smash his face in, I was saying he was being provoked to have the right to smash his face in, in my eyes.

Smashing his face in being a terminology for givng him a couple of smacks

Which, as I said, he wouldn't have had the right to do. Once makes it self defence, twice would have made it assault. BTW, smashing someone's face in isn't a terminology for a couple of smacks.

Lol.... Jesus Christ can't people say any thing without wing picked apart for correct Oxford dictioary. Don't take things so literal

Those were my exact thoughts when watching those, talk about leaving yourself exposed. :D
