i'm fuming.....

How you feeling now Stan?

Sorry not read every reply but personally I wouldn't have mentioned how much it was worth as it might have encouraged them to nick the lot.

It's really hard to stop yourself when someone else has done something wrong, I ride a motorbike and know that 90% of potential road rage incidents can be eliminated if the person at fault just apologised. The trouble is ego takes over, as happened here.

Try and put it away and get on with normal life, it's not worth it!

i'm afraid it's not an ego thing for me..just whats right and wrong.

Mark - You crack me up :)

Remind me again what it is you teach ;)
I would have jabbed them in the eyeball with my tripod and then offered my 10 stop, as a permanent eye monocle.

Just kiddin....

i teach origami neil

i don't have a 10 stop,so can i borrow yours,just in case you understand ;)

Some people would sooner turn the other cheek and walk away and it takes some guts to do that, for fear of looking weak. Unfortunately some of these scrotes see that and intimidate them even more. Alot of them are gobs on legs and soon shy away when someone confronts them but there are also the so called harder ones who'll swing for you.
I've worked the doors at nightclubs for 20 years and see it every week. I for one would have done exactly the same as Stan.
As my old martial arts instructor said it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Its always the innocent that get into trouble.

Hope you calm down and watch your back if you go back again!!

who cares about hitting minors, there not little kids, if they were my age (16) then it would be a bad idea but the 17-18's tend to get quite aggressive. if they call the police to try and get you done then get them to pay out for any damages done to equipment, that should shut the little *****s up

I think a kick in the nuts is a fair response if someone throws a punch at you, it all depends how it started out, if it was some kids messing about who got over zealous and you started shoving them about through anger then it wouldn't have been justified but if it was thrown with malice in a threatening manner followed by one of them taking a swing at you when you protested then i'd say it was justified

I think this response in America may have been taking it a step too far for having snowballs thrown at you though :D

i'm feeling okay now,thanks...

Glad to hear it Mark.
I'm not getting into the rights & wrongs of it - already been done to death in this thread.
I'm just happy to hear that you're OK and (slightly less importantly) that your kit's fine too

Crappy way to start off the New Year, but 2010 can only get better from here on in.

i teach origami neil

Yeah. Those paper swans can be lethal in a trained pair of hands ;)

Revenge of the 'tog :D

Dean Martin once said
I feel sorry for people who don't drink.
They wake up in the morning and that's the best they're going to feel all day.

You have had a bad start, the rest of the year can only get better

No it has not but the whole is based on accurate reporting get one part wrong and it reduces validity of the rest

Just came back to this thread to see this

So, what you're saying is, because the value of the kit isn't 100% accurate then we have to question the accuracy of the original post. My understanding of that could be wrong but it seems like you're questioning the authenticity of what actually happened and, in turn, the integrity of the OP.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm misinterpreting what you mean :)

Well done Stan on standing up for yourself.

Just had a look at your Flickr, you got some cracking shots before the incident?

i read it that it's what chaz is exactly saying dod.i have asked him to reply to my questions throughout this thread, but he has failed to do so.i have nothing to gain by "sexing" the truth about what happened, and am insulted that he has the nerve to say as much.the value i stated is correct,as near as dammit...

The closest you come to teaching Origami is folding beermats!

I don't know he folded that chav up with no problem :D

As for what you did Stan well done he deserved what he got.

I don't go out looking for trouble myself but i would have done the same thing. I think the kick between the legs is one of the first things i learned when doing karate.

At the end of the day, one of those miserable scrotebags got a good kick in the balls. Good result.

If everyone gave the anti-social little ********s a good kick in the crotch the country would be a much better place :)

Stuff it, lets create a TP vigilante group, but instead of red berets, we could use TP camera straps as a mark of the brotherhood.....;) :D

M'lud.....
This innocent young man, nay child was playing in the snow with his friends when he was confronted by a large man whom he accidentally hit with a snow ball (he had actually thrown it at one of his friends but missed) The poor child was about to appologise to the man but was very frightened and intimidated. He noticed some of the snow was on the mans chin! ... When he attempted to wipe this away with his right hand he was viciously kicked in the balls and felt excrutiating pain, he fell to the ground in agony. At this point the man left this poor unfortunate child to suffer alone, seriously injured, in pain, in freezing weather... he could have died! had his friends not returned to give assistance.

The poor lad obviously suffered extreme mental and physical pain and still does several months after the assault. He is now too scared of adults to leave his home and will need councilling for many years to come.

;)

Now why don't we have a tongue in cheek smiley ...:D .... Seriously though the little **** got what he deserved

I have read right through this thread and it has been very interesting to read everyones different view and reactions.

I think Stan knows he took a risk confronting them and it could have ended a different way but I think the most galling aspect of this incident is that if the lad had been on his own he probably would not have thrown the snowball in the first place and I very much doubt he would have thrown a punch when fronted up. It's peer pressure and a pack culture that makes them unpredictable and dangerous.

I really sympathise with you Stan getting sucked into something that you shouldn't have to deal with. I bet the old ticker rate went up a bit !

I could go on and on about self defence and the law, both statute and common law but it all depends on what you tell the police.

'They threw snowballs and then a punch at me so I thought I would hit him back' = Assault charge

'They threw snowballs and then a punch at me, I felt in intimidated, scared and in genuine fear that I was in danger so I hit him' = Self defence

I'm sure you get the idea ! Glad you was all ok in the end.

Take care

I have read this thread from OP right through to this part, I am not going to comment on what has been said as it has already been said again and again.

But I read this and fell off the settee laughing, (hope the laptop will be ok), I picked myself up and laughed again then re read it out loud to the wife who laughed aswell but did not fall off the settee, only to realise the harsh truth.........

Minor or not this is exactly what would be said to M'lud in a court of law:lol::lol::lol::lol:

come on Splog what would be said in defence of Stan the man???

not too funny though as I do not think the lap top will take another bashing on the floor:p

Whilst I applaud that you had the courage to stand up to these Idiots, is there not a wider problem here that you shouldn't have to?

The fact that there are so many on here saying that you could have risked more than just getting assaulted, criminal charges, convictions etc, whilst others are saying it was self defence suggests there is something inherantly wrong with the law.

Why do some many namby pamby governments pander to the minority?

Wait wait....Stan I am glad you are ok, I don't necessarily agree that what you did was "right" but I am getting a feeling that there are many "normally rational" people in the UK getting to the end of their tether...

Oh and harking back to a very early post, I too never threw things at cars or strangers, never played knock a door run or verbally abused people in the street as a youngster....

I dont think you can use self defence against a minor can you.. especialy not against snow ball throwing or a glancing punch.. if you caused him serious injury and he is 17 then the impications are massive... thats my point of view... again not comment on if he deserved it or if i would ahve done the same.. just a word of caution when dealing wiht people who could be under 18...

There's no law in England that says you can't defend yourself against a minor and striking someone with a snowball is assault. Also, whether a blow is glancing or not is irrelevant; the assailant made contact so it's again assault. These are simple facts that you can check on-line at various government web sites.

Had Stan continued to hit/kick his assailant after his initial retaliation that would be a different matter and a magistrate would have to determine whether he had used more than "reasonable force" to defend himself.

Stan, I think you did the right thing and were very restrained. I hope you've been able to relax since then.

Sadly, it's getting to the stage where this seems to be the only sort of communication the feral scrotes understand. Whenever I hear about something like this I can't help but think that as a youth I would never have even contemplated acting like they did. I was brought up to treat people with courtesy and respect, and in my mind that extends to not randomly assaulting strangers "for a laugh".

An ex-para mate of mine reckons as punishment that feral scrotes be kept busy. He suggests they dig a hole 8 ft long, 4 ft wide and 6 ft deep and then dig another, but fill the first one in with the soil from the second hole as they go, rinse and repeat until he (my mate) finishes the book he's reading. I quite like that idea.

Perhaps more chlorine needs to be added to the shallow end of the gene pool.

Pathetic behaviour. Shame on you and on those who support your actions. By your own admission there was no damage done and in return you committed ABH on a youth.

If I had been there I would have upended you.

Is 'PhotoPlod' still around? It would be good to hear the thoughts of the police in this discussion, as there seems to be a lot of things being said about minors, self-defence, and the age of criminal responsibility that seem to be conflicting!

Chris

That's going to be controversial! This isn't a challenge, or a bait, but a genuine question; what would you do if while you were out someone punched you in the face?

I wouldn't have got into that situation. They throw snowballs, I throw snowballs. Why take a fist to a snowball fight?

Oh get off your high horse. :cuckoo:

So here we have a 34 year old father of 2 who thinks it's O.K. to assault someone for throwing a snowball?

Get real.

Why take a fist to a snowball fight?

Ask the guy who threw the first punch! You read the whole thread right? The kick from the OP wasn't because of the snowballs, he kicked the guy because he was punched in the face first!

read the first post again.

Keep it calm folks, or it will be me doing the nut kicking...;)
