Im interested to know what everyone does on a daily basis - are most people who post here photographers?

If not, how does your photography fit into your life - is it a hobby, is it a huge hobby which threatens to take over ;)

Also, if you are a photographer - how did you get into it and did you study at college?

Im just nosy really :)......but really interested!

thanks in advance
Sharon

General Manager in a Satellite / AV company in manchester in charge of 3 office staff and 7 field staff. Also go out to site if the job looks interesting enough.

Work from 8-6 most days, run the kids about most nights (Better social life than me and the wife), and get to play at photography at weekend if i'm lucky!

Photography is more of a hobby / interest than a paying passtime, but would like to get to be good enough for it to be 'self-funding'.

A Wedding and Events photographer with a bit of wildlife stuff as well.

Serving Soldier in charge of 2000 men, well for discipline anyway.

Local Government, managing a team of 10.
Hobby, threatening to become an addiction!

I'm a photographer by day, which also includes some writing and teaching.

I'm a singer by night with a number of projects currently in the works. If only I could build a recording studio into my darkroom and do both jobs at once! LOL.

Didn't go to school for either.

I'm an IT Consultant, I won't bore you with what I specialise in but I have a few letters after my name....

In the evenings and weekends I grab my camera in an attempt to escape from my daily work.

I'm currently a web/database developer who is in transition phase to becoming a full time photographer. Reckon I've another year or so of the IT stuff before the photography pays enough to keep me alive.

I'll be doing weddings, portraits and bands at first. Still lots and lots and lots to learn though...

im a sparky working in a cake factory on continental shifts, work 3 days, 3 days off, work 3 nights 3 off, as you can imagine your working while everyone else is off and visa virsa so you tend not to have much of a social life. i needed to take up a hobby that i liked and got me out ,so photography got the nod

I'm a social work student by day. Casual amateur photographer and parent of one the rest of the time.

I work for a building contractor during the day, parent at night and somehow fit photography in between :p

EDI & C#.Net Developer

Photography is, as and when I have time between entertaining the daughter (and the wife ;-) ) and maintaining a house! Which is not all that much really!

I started photography as a 2nd photographer at weddings with my wife! Plunged in at the deep end some would say! This was about 5 years ago.

I'm Production Director of my digital printing business. Photography is a serious hobby that takes up most of my spare time (of which I don't get much lol) :)

I work on an IT support helpdesk in a 6th Form College (+ a fair bit of media technician stuff).
Photography - An obsession. Its what I breathe, dream and do in my spare time. I hope to become a digital artist at Venture.

:)

EDA manager in a silicon design office. Have a team of 3 to manage directly and 20 engineers to support.
Software to write, flows to develop and debug. IC's to verify and ship.

Been togging for years. Its a hobby, but I'm debating taking it further.

I spend the days browsing the web and texting grendel when there is someone to laugh at. So far Paul is winning on the gross gags.

Virtually all spare time is spent on photography which i'm sure is only a joy because it is a hobby :)

Oh yeah, I'm paid to be an HR chappie which, frankly, makes Joe T's job look exciting :D

VLDB datawarehousing and business intelligence stuff - its geeky.

Very much a hobbiest but I can feel the addiction starting already. So far I have managed to stay away from the L glass but its so tempting (bit like anticipation of a first crack hit I would imagine)

Run an IT company that specialises in membership systems for sports clubs and stock control systems. Bores the crap out of me.

Main hobby/passion is long distance triathlon. Just getting back into photography after dabbling a bit 10 years or so ago - its definately drawing me in though.

Did that have something to do with alcohol free beer

LOL.

No, a recent news story and a French vehicle manufacturer. He may (should) have died of shame by now

I'm a 19 year old photography student (currently in my second year) so pretty much all I do is shoot photos. If I'm not shooting photos I can usually be found making music or having a good time at a gig with mates.

I first got into photography a few years back after I was told I wasn't allowed to take Art further in education, I went and had a look at my options and chose photography. Had a fantastic time doing it at college and now I do it at university.

Wouldn't have it any other way :)

Technical Insultant to one of Europe's largest property investment groups currently formed into a tri-partite consortium specifically to invest in one sector of the Government's PFI projects ...

AND ... SO much better than being a CONsultant imgo ... ;)

Project Manager - MoD

My spare time at the moment is restoring a house however my main hobby is finescale modeling/architectural modeling a very much indoors activity.

Took up photography about a year ago from scratch as a way of taking myself away from the modeling as I needed some creative inspiration! Besides which it is something I've always thought...I'd like to do that but never had the time or money.

Distribution Ops Manager for a well known company supplying all your needs for Mother and Baby :p

Photography is a rekindled hobby from my youth, not enough time spent on it yet but will probably consume me eventually

I used to work where dsb now is. Spent a total of 11 very enjoyable years there. Hey, ho. Those were the days.

Now I help some people save money. And I help others make money by building a significant residual income for the future. Or..... both.

I'm currently working in sales and marketing but my main background is IT (which bored the heck out of me towards the end so I left).

I bought my first SLR in June 05 shortly after I found out that my wife was pregnant with our Daughter. I have been interested in photography for some time, but didn't have the funds or the impetus to get into it before then.

I'm now studying a BTEC in photography part time, and am planning on following that up with a part time uni course. After that, who knows.

All I know is that I want out of office work altogether... :bang:

Security Consultant but it bores the crap out of me these days - no excitement, no drama, just humdrum tedium. Part time equine event photographer on the side and moving slowly but surely into weddings, something I said I'd never do but I love them.

Group ICT Manager for a Double Glazing Group, been here 14 years now and think about doing something else at least once a week :)

Got my first SLR when I was 15 and still have it tucked away in a box in the back of the garage, its only over the last year or so I have moved over to digital and am currently studying photography at C&G level just for the fun of it.

GM at company manufacturing optical filters:woot:

Photography, love it. Some would say my obsession with it borders on perverse, Mmmmmmmm, oh! must stop dribbling.
(heads off to toilet with camera magazine in hand)

Management Consultant (hmm Venomator!) at a well known telecoms company that sends you all the blue bills you know & love - specialise in the global payments arena for the major international banks. All very interesting if you like that kind of thing (just as well I do!). Got into photography as my girlfriend's parents were both sometime professional photographers & the digital revolution caught us both in its snare....!!!

Hands on pest control manager / consultant Its great! I get to play with all sorts of nasties and kick ass as well when I get bored, I'm just a big kid at heart :D
Just got into DSLR photography after a long break from film and point and shoot. In truth I couldn't really afford it until recently, A large promotion & large pay increase. Just for fun!

I own my own Computer shop with a friend, we both used to work at a different company and decided to go it alone. Still going (just!) 4 1/2 years later but its been tough the last couple of years what with retail being poor.

Currently a Change Control Cordinator but soon to be a NOC Controller in a global telecoms company.

Photography is a hobby, when i can squeeze it in between football, golf, gym and socialising!

Got into photography after trekking in Nepal with a point and shoot (weight saving) and being VERY dissapointed with the pictures i got.

Wish i had started when was a teenager but then i was into drawing and painting, which did lay the foundations for artistic inspiration.

I work for Mytravel in the head office near Manchester and I am part of a team who create and maintain a suite of pricing tools for use within the travel industry.

I am being made redundant in 6 weeks as Mytravel are merging with Thomas Cook !!!!
