Im being Baptised tomorrow

Personally, not been christened, baptised or anything..... Parents looked into it when i was little, but thought let him make his mind up when older.... growing up with a logical , scientific background, I chose not to, and will 100% say here and now, I am a non believer, but also understand that a lot of people do believe...... (and really an online almost anonymous forum is no place to debate really one way or the other......)

Each to their own so to speak, though I would have assumed that the OP would have enquired as to what was involved in the "process" beforehand...

As an aside and not wishing to open up a whole religious debate, I am at, 37, of the opinion (naive [non] belief) that there are 2 major roots of Christianity, RC and CoE. Then various factions split off, so what is the fundamental difference between a Baptist and a Methodist?

Like Dangermouse, I'm not religious, but for God's sake Pete, ;-) respect people's beliefs.

Good luck to the OP.

I do respect all beliefs, what I am against is the fact its here and against religious rules.......if it was anything to do with
Hindu or any other religion it wouldnt even see the light of day, but because I have brought it up it will get extra special treatment to prove me wrong:thumbs:

Andy, enjoy it have a great day and congratulations on the impending nuptials !!!

 RELIGION or is it ok to call Taliban by their real names now..........notice how I abstained:clap: good boy me innit

Anything that depicts religion is banned so is anything political:thumbs:

Go to bed you knob....................

I think the point is that this is not a person preaching their religion but simply someone saying that they are being baptised tomorrow and asking what to expect. It is no more "religious" than someone posting a picture of a christmas tree or a church, a mosque or a synagogue. Seriously rules without asctually thinking about them are for traffic wardens. This thread could not offend anyone.

EDIT: Andy, good luck! :)

Andy

I'd like to see the size of the vicar whose gonna try & pick you up wrapped in a shoal & lean you over the font under one arm & with the other tip water over you.... or am I in the wrong religion

I kinda agree with Pete. :coat:
But, I also feel if someone is anxious, excited etc because of an event, wheather it is religious or otherwise, and they wsh to share their thoughts on the OOF forum, they should be able to do so. But then again......As Religion and Politics are considered as NO NO's, what if some right wing biggot came on here and said
''I'm excited, cos I'm standing for the NF in the next election"?

OK! I know that's completely different than the OP, but understand where DM1964 is coming from.

Mods must have a hard time to please everyone, so my thoughts go out to them.

OK I wish you well, and hope you enjoy your day but this is to do with
God and in my eyes God is a bloke thats a little bit religious he did have a son called Jesus
and there is a little book called the BIBLE about them, and making believers by baptism but surely this isnt religious ..............heaven forbid..............cmom

Rules apply to everyone not just the few

Getting baptised, or 'believing' is probably the most one sided gamble ever. If there isn't an ever after you'll never know but if there is you have the golden ticket.

Congratulations btw  but I'm with Stephen Hawkings on this one ;)

Go to bed you knob....................

That's a bit harsh Ade! ;) Then again I've had a couple of Gold Labels and not sure I know what I'm talking about!:D But I think I'm right? :p

Im marrying my partner and i have to be baptised before we can get married at the church we want......;)

When you marry remember the response is " I do" NOT " Do I ?":lol:

So you are doing it to get married in the right church. Sorry that is ridiculous.

I do not wish to offend, but you are not doing it for the right reason, but then again religion is not a subject that should be discussed. It's the only thing with stronger opinions than Canon/Nikon or Mac/PC:cuckoo:

Religion is a funny old thing. All I will say in fear of getting banned.

Andy I dont mind you getting married, in fact we all wish you well but the baptism thing..........nah its a bit religious so enjoy and ...........enjoy.........now onto non religious or political stuff

My dad, who was brought up in a very religious family who didnt believe in child baptism, had to get baptised to marry my mum in church. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary so I hope your marriage is as long and happy.

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow Andy.

I'm Christened and Confirmed but have no religous interest of my own. Like most people it 'was done' as a child at my parent's wishes and nobody questions that route.

You're getting a hard time (some of it plain stupid) on here as it's an emotive issue but at the end of the day unlike most people who get baptised you've a decent personal reason to go ahead with it as a freethinking adult so go for it and embrace the experience.

The things we do for loved ones...Could be worse I guess - I had to move to Scotland lol

And why not?????? Problem

Not at all, I was just wondering if it was for the right reason - I was baptised over 30 years ago.

Im marrying my partner and i have to be baptised before we can get married at the church we want......;)

Have you thought about what baptism actually means?

to clarify the guidelines

Religious debate/Political debate(or rants as they normally are) are not welcome, someone enjoying the fact that they are getting baptised was fine until someone shoved a big troll shaped stick in it. YOu know who you are.
