In a moment of pure inspiration, I have screwed my 82mm filter holder adaptor onto a CPL, whilst it was on the camera.
Now the damn thing won't come off, the CPL will only rotate, but I am unable to get any movement out of the filter holder adaptor.
Has anyone else been this idiotic, but found a solution to the issue?

Try wrapping a rubber band around it to give grip.

Does this help?

Rubber band around the part that doesn't rotate to polarise the light will work.

The way I am reading this is the OP has the CPL on a filter holder adapter (Cokin p etc.) and the flange of the adapter is close to bit of the CPL that needs to be gripped, too close for fingers, yes I am an idiot too, any picks Matty? at least they would give Minnnt another snigger.

been there - but a filter wrench did the trick

expensive PL-C..? vs cheap Cokin plastic adapter = small junior hacksaw.......:exit:

The usual problem is when you grip the ring to remove it, the ring distorts very slightly and jams the threads even tighter. So even pressure all the way round is the answer.

In this case with a rotating polariser, in the absence of a removal too, a rubber band is probably the best bet, then try to grip the filter with say four fingers evenly spaced (or rather thumb and three fingers) and with even pressure.

With normal filters that get stuck, one of those rubbery kitchen things made for opening jars usually works. Or, a piece of that very grippy anti-slip rubber mat stuff that caravaners use to stop things sliding around. On a flat surface, put the lens face down, apply gentle pressure evenly, and twist

Some polarisers have a little "handle" that screws into the rotating part which allows much more traction on the filter. The old trick of pressing the outside part (the adaptor ring) could then be used in conjunction with the handle.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling that @posiview had an issue with a stuck or cross-threaded filter - pretty sure he got his off in the end??

My was on an acute slant IYSWIM. Was not going to budge at all. So I took a small screw driver and very gently prised it of. It was only attached to one thread on one side so came off very easily. Since this I have applied some graphite to the threads.

Hope that you get it sorted.

Cheers

run it under a hot tap to make the materials expand and loosen.

if that doesn't help, try lubricating it with fairy liquid.

I have assembled an army of elastic bands in the office today, so I will give that a try this evening. If not, those filter plier things looks like they may do the trick.
Really appreciate all the advice on the thread, except for @minnnt who really needs to find someone new to troll

I used a small jewlers scre driver to force a gap between the turning section and the ring. Then turned the outside as its now jammed

Pair of marigolds will help your grip. I got a step-up ring stuck on a lens and nothing, not even a lens wrench, would shift it (too slippy and thin to grip properly). Someone at work suggested marigolds and they worked a treat.

Work out the value of the CPL versus the lens.

The only time I had a filter become cross threaded, I decided that the filter could be sacrificed for the sake of the lens.
