I'm a Sony user, shall i change to Canon??

The slt cameras are so quick. The equivalent slt to the a580 has 10fps. The digital viewfinders are so strange to look through.

I know I should get some better glass. Which one is best to replace the kit. The tamron 2.8 is so expensive

I know I'm getting so much advice but I am awful at these decisions hehe

I too switched from Pentax to Canon, mainly for the wider range of lenses especially longer ones, much better range secondhand too.
Not sure about Sony, but Canon USM is so much quicker than Pentax SDM and another good reason to change

Do miss in body stabilisation, but like the steady image in the viewfinder from stabilised lenses, so call that one a draw

I had a 200 and went from that to a 700 which was a good move....

Then i switched from the 700 to a Canon 5D..... All i can say is that i wish i switched to Canon earlier :)

My 5D produces far better image quality than the sony a700.

I started with a Canon 400D and kit lens. No IS, VR or any other know stabilizer. I found my pictures soft and really disliked the results. Went over to Sonay (a200) with built in stabilizer (SSS) and instantly noticed a massive improvement, even with the kit lens. I upgraded last year to the a450 and I am still working well within the camera's capabilities. I have not out grown this camera and although I too have some cheap glass, I know that with better lens I will be very satisfied with the results. Why sell up and switch systems just because you might think your photography will improve with a different camera? At this level of ability and money in the pocket I would stick with it. At the moment it will best suit your purpose to try at least one good lens on your present body and see if the result motivates you to use it some more and expand knowledge before upgrading. Good luck with your choice.....;)

I was in the same boat as you about two months back and decided to stay. I looked at the lenses I was after and Sony offered all that I needed and eventually found out that the only advantage canon and nikon had was popularity.

Another problem is selling your current gear, I resorted to selling my camera down to £150 and still no buyers so I kept it instead.

I got £235 for my A300 on ebay, it was the only thing I've tried to sell that didn't move on dyxum, all the rest (glass and accessories) went at asking fairly quickly. The Sigma 10-20 was particularly notable in that it went in a few minutes. Still got one crop lens left to sell at some point, just need to organise myself to take some pictures of it.

I wouldn't try to sell a-mount stuff on here.

I got into DSLR via picking up a used Nikon D40 here and then brought a Sony A300. Nice camera, inbuilt IS is good, live view was quick with tilt screen was good, but the feel and comfort and menus I missed the Nikon and jumped back to nikon with a D90.

go have a feel and play which is the most important thing.

Miss some elements of the Sony, but happy for now.

Hmmm I am tryin to buy a Tammy 17-50 what do you reckon? Decent lens x

If it's not got vc would Sony in built image stabilisation compensate?

Yes. All lenses for sony are non stabilised as the stabilisation is in the body.

do you like your 580 srichards?

@sussex blue thanks for the link :)

Yes I do. Much better than the 350 in many ways including faster AF and much less image noise.

Nitpicking maybe but this isn't true. Sigma produces a no. of lenses in Alpha mount with OS. This gives you the option of using either in-body or in-lens stabilisation.
but again I believe that the 17-70 with OS doesn't perform as well as the one without (& is dearer)...

Oh right. Never noticed they did!

Anybody got any experience with the sigma 17-70?
:( yeah, mine is back a sigma under going a check up, I think my a450 may have stripped the AF cogs.
