Good morning all.

I am using Lightroom 3 64bit ver 3.0 and have worked out how to get the photos into Lightroom and manipulate them and getting them looking resonable, I am now totally stuck, I want to post some photos on here that I took of my new motorcycle as not only am I chuffed to bits with my new bike I am also quite pleased with my photos and wanted some opionions from the more expirenced members on here.

How do I save the photos as jpegs now that Im happy with them and how do I resize them to be able to post on here and other forums??

Select the photos you want and right click and choose export, there will be a box come up with various options. Choose where you want them exported to and you can rename change size or add sharpening here as well.
 
Thanks Wayne, just sussed it out, they use the term "Export" I was looking for "Save or Save As" thats what threw me, I am going on a course locally soon to learn about PS and LR and Workflow etc, etc, so hopefully I will get a bit better in future.

The main key concept to get your head round with lightroom is where all the image data is stored. By default, Lightroom does absolutely nothing to you original images at all. It does not change the file in any way. All your adjustments are stored in a database (the LR catalog). WHen you view the image in LR, the program looks at the original, and then applies all the corrections you have made from its catalog, to get to the version you want. If you use another program to look at the photos they will look like the originals, not like they do after editing in LR.

That's why there is no "save", since there is nothing to save! What export does is take the original, modify it as per the instructions in the catalog, and then make a new file with the result.

Now, you can get LR to save the data in the catalog back into the files. This doesn't over-write the original, but it stores the editing instructions alongside the file. That way, if you use another program that can read those instructions (like Adobe Bridge) you will see the same resulting image you would in LR< since they are both applying the same modifications to the original.

The technical term for this type of system is Parametric Image Editing, and it's what Lightroom, Bridge and Apeture do. The alternative is Pixel Editing, which is where the actual file is modified in a permanent way, as happens in Photoshop and most other editors, and where, if you save the image it will over-write the original with the new version.

Have a search on the internet for some Lightroom tutorials. Adobe do some good ones as do NAPP. Also check out Lightroom Killer Tips.
