Couldn't agree more.
My time involved in rescue meant spending many hours trying to sort out badly matted coats on dogs,
shaving meant people didn't look at them for rehoming so they spent longer in kennels.
Remember one beautiful long haired that I was gently trying to remove a bin liner of matted hair from,
some people stopped to talk and then rehomed her, because she was putting up with all the intensive grooming
and looked lovely when done :) But it took ages to do it

Apparently the "defence" was the under coat was in a hell of a mess, although the cat looked reasonable, on top, that had to go to sort out the badly matted under coat.
Who knows, but I guess its feasible

Exceedingly feasible in me experience with dogs under coat is often forgotten :(
 
Brushed mine this morning too mush loose hair, lots of purring I think someone enjoyed it. I have always liked a nice bushy Cat :p
