Hi folks.


I picked up a roll of this from the local gallery a couple of months ago thinking in the back of my mind that I would never realistically get to shoot in in good old Blighty (I don't like using my tripod)! However, I have looked outside today and I see glorious blue skies and strong sunshine. The film is loaded!

Having never shot it before would you good folk recommend I stick to box speed? I don't really like pulling or pushing unless its absolutely necessary. As for developing, I have RO9 and DDX. Some things I have read say definitively that this film works best in the rodinal clones and others say it works best in DDX/D76. I have D76 but I haven't made it yet!

Box speed and Rodinal has always worked for me, if possible stick a yellow filter on too.

From my experience it doesnt pull/push very well and has a recipricol failure as bad if not worse than Fomapan.

Offers very nice results though if the light is good.

I've only devd it in LC29 so can't help with your chems....I reckon a semi stand in rodianl may do it justice though...I'll have to try myself with my next roll.

Only ever used it at box with Rodinal and I've really liked the results.
 
Thanks folks! The sun seems to be prevailing and am now on my way to town to shoot it. Think I'll go for rodinal 1+50. I don't have a yellow filter and refuse to add one in post! Will post some up in this thread if I finish the roll :)
 
Well it's developed and apart from two frames where agitation was inconsistent the negs are looking good. Will post a few up later.
 
Hi, I'm moving back to Liverpool next week after a long time in London. It sounds like you know a shop that sells film in Liverpool. Please could you let me know where it is? I've stocked up with Tri-X from Silverprint but it will run out eventually.
 
Well here are a few images off the roll. Rodinal 1+50. Had some terrible drying marks on them, something I haven't had for ages so a bit of work in LR to clean them up and a curves adjustment:

Go to the Open Eye Gallery on Mann Island. They have a gift shop there that sells Ilford film. Not the cheapest but is you are only buying a couple at a time it works out comparable to online stores that mostly add postage :thumbs:

You can also get two rolls of HP5 for a tenner in Boots in the buy one get one half price offer.

Avoid Moorfields Photographic as they charge over nine quid per roll. I would only go there if I was desperate for 120 as they are the only shop in town that sells it.
 
Nick, great set of shots, lovely tones from the Pan F. Nice subjects, captured well!
 
Thanks for the info on The Open Eye. I like the photographs on the Pan F and I can't see any drying marks. I was rather hoping that once I got back to a soft water area that I wouldn't have to worry about such things. I don't suppose Louis Samson's camera shop is still there on Bold St is it?

Four shots that have great tone, low on contrast, but wonderfully SMOOTH, I like them very much.

Congratulations on a winning combo.
 
Thank you so much for all the kind words folks! I did find them a touch low on contrast but I suppose that's a characteristic of the film.

Yeah, without a yellow or orange filter PanF is naturally a low contrast film, it needs filtration
