Ilfochrome Paper

Can anyone share any info on ilfochrome paper. I've never developed my own prints before but the college I'm donig a course at has a full darkroom setup and I might as well make the most of it. I can't bring myself to shoot colour negative so Ilfochrome paper is the only option for printing from slide.

What's it like, is it any harder to use than normal papers etc etc.

Quite fancy printing my own prints for my assignment.

Why can't you bring yourself to shoot colour negative? It gives you a much wider latitude to work with, and makes amateur printing far, far easier.

Ilfochrome, if the process is the same as the old Cibachrome is actualy very easy to do.

As with most processes temp stability is important, but the process is very easy.

When I last used it in the eighties we used to cheat and use ordinery B&W DEV & Fixer and just use the Ilford Bleach.

Easy to do in a hand rolled drum or process machine like the old JOBO CPE's

Most of the time the basic filter pack suggested on the paper gave the correct results and filtration adjustments was easy if needed. If its too yellow take yellow out etc.

Give it a go, you will like the results.

I always got fantastic results with colour neg film with fuji paper when I was at college but wanted something a little bit more and went for Ilford Ilfocolour glossy and it didn't let me down. Your a lucky man if your college has a printing machine that can handle Ilfochrome, make the most of it I say!

At the miunte I don't do any printing at all so I like having the slides to look at as well as scanning.

Your a lucky man if your college has a printing machine that can handle Ilfochrome, make the most of it I say!

Printing your own stuff from colour neg or slide is certainly something that you should have a go at whilst you have the chance. When you get the perfect colour print nailed it looks astounding and the satisfaction is brilliant.

Then you'll decide that it's an excessively time consuming, comparatively expensive, mind numbingly boring and utterly tedious waste of your time.

Unless you have a slide or neg that needs real attention on the baseboard to get a balanced print, machines are way better for colour work.

The chemistry process is different, you'll be best of asking one of the tutors or technicians at college about them as I haven't done any colour printing for quite some time but I still think the RA4 process is pretty much the norm still.

How many printing machines have they got at your college??

Incidently, The best advice for colour printing is listen to your tutor and anyone else with experience of the colour casts. There's a real knack to getting a good print and don't use tiny test strips it's false economy, make sure there's absolutley no dust on you neg whatsoever :bang: or you'll waste quite a number of sheets
