Yes
iPhone 3gs, white 16GB, been fine for ages....now it won't boot past logo. Tried all but the iTunes restore option which is now in progress.

If I loose my ANGRY BIRDS progress (3 stars in all but a tiny handful of levels), I'm gonna be ****ed.

PIECE OF APPLE ****

Get a Nokia!

Hope you get it sorted Mate! :D

Did you recently upgrade to the latest OS? I've heard a few nasty stories... Hope you don't loose Angry Birds, it rocks... or so my five year old son thinks :D

HTC & Android FTW :p

Hmm, I know you have to download apps again after a restore, but not normally everything... wouldn't have something to do with 30,000 or so files and a mac? After all, they both come from the same tree!!

Time for google I think, hope you manage to sort it out

:D To be fair, I actually do fail. If I had known I could backup to my PC etc, I would have...

Guys quick question. If this phone has an ITUNES link on my mac at work (I sometimes charge it on the imac), will IT have taken a backup automatically? If so....can I force the backup onto the handset?

G.

Think it backsup automatically as part of the sync to the primary itunes machine. My last two upgrades (2G > 3G > 3G S) have just plugged in, synced and had all the contacts, tunes, apps etc transfered...

It does backup automatically - when did you last plug it in to install stuff/copy tunes Gary?
Try clicking on Restore on the first iPhone sync page if you are sure everything is lost.

If when you plug it in at work it says something like "Synching with iPhone" then you should be OK, if not, then iFail indeed!

I don't plug mine in anywhere near as much as I used to, need to get back in the habit!!

another vote for HTC here ;) i got the desire over the iphone and love it!

will remind myself to back up though, just in case...

My son backs his up on my family mobileme, & as he has had 2 problems recently (so he says) & got replacement phones I know he re-synced & was up & running in minutes. Not sure about ITunes, I know it does my IPod

oh dont get me started... i dont play games often but that damn angry birds had me hooked.
Smashed the iphone, but no problem i have a full backup!

ahahahahaha NO!

yes it backs up music, contacts and everything else... but... games? no...
you get no game progress saved in a backup, and on top of that i have around 40 apps which get used regularly all put into the correct order i need them (a page for web development, a page for photography) etc... what happens on a restore? the order is all miss match and ive got to sort it all again.

minor inconveniences i know but something i did not expect from APPLE... inconveniences are meant to be from microsoft! grrrrr

Or not...my friend got so fed up of his HTC thingy that after the second time of it restoring itself to factory settings and loosing all his apps, address book, data etc he smashed the thing to bits with a hammer in a fit of rage...

I imagine that's an HTC running WinMo.

The new HTC Desire and HTC Legend are both running Android and are amazing

Now that is impressive!

Yes, normally iTunes automatically backs up your phone if it is running when you plug your phone into your Mac. Fingers crossed for you...

There is a way to sort this Gary. I had a problem when I was selling an iphone. Check on google but if I remember rightly you press the home button while you switch it on and then it asks you to link to itunes for re-install. Sadly you have lost your contacts etc though. The phone will re-install.

Otherwise check with apple shop, they will sort

But if all else fails give it to me, if you hate it that much .........lol

My 3G did this. It crashed during an update to the phone software and went into a crash/reboot loop. Even restore mode didn't get it back and Apple Store Bristol could do nothing.

O2's insurance said it wasn't broken so the insurance didn't cover it! It was 13 months old so outside Apples 12 month warranty period

It cost me £195 to buy out the remaining of my contract and upgrade to the 3Gs. The good news now is they are dirt cheap as the 4G is coming out in June/July.

Once you've got your new phone, just sync again and it puts all back.

Holy ****ing **** everything is gone :( Contacts, SMS's, Games, Photos, all of it.

I now officially want to stab STEVE JOBS in the eye. NOT happy :(

Gary I am genuinely sorry about your losing your contacts etc.
However, as you are devote to the Apple, religion, thank you so much for the quotes :)

Got my Desire on Saturday and agree with this.....stunningly quick with a 1Ghz processor. Brilliant bit of kit!

Stuff breaks, no matter who they're made by. Getting HTC/Android phones won't make that any better, in fact the backup options on Android are not clear to say the least, its much easier to backup an iPhone.

Personally I use Google Apps so my mail, contacts, and calendar are synced with Google's servers constantly over the internet. If I do lose all my local data, I just need to setup the Exchange link with Google again and everything there downloads automatically.

The best backups are automatic and transparent, and if you remember to sync your phone occasionally the iPhone is pretty good at it.

So, whilst I skimmed through this thread, I noticed one thing. Gary in a rant is about as comical as I remember from out Scotland trips.

Also, and more importantly, is Angry Birds ok? Did you get your progress back? I only ask because if you didn't, now would be an excellent time to rub it in that my Angry Birds progress is not only fine, but also so nearly complete :D

He he a sore subject with him just now.He not got it back on yet poor didums

Pah, should have gone WinMo...

All my contacts are automatically synced with msn and all my programs, photos and video are on an external card.;)

Would they not be restored on your next sync ?

And you didn't back it up? *tut, tut* :nono:
Believe it or not...he doesn't own a computer (I kid you not! He isn't much of a technology person in that respect and just uses his PS3 for web surfing)

It's the HTC Hero - well, was - whatever that runs (not up on these phones).
