... you may want to speed up the decision buying process!

Last night, while packing my stuff, for my flight back to UK, I dropped my lens :shake: it fell off the balcony on to the TV downstairs. In horror and shock, I couldn't look, and waited to hear a soft-landing, but not so.

Well, TV is slightly damaged (but who cares); 24-70 AF-S is dead, it's in more pieces than I can count :'(

So, this morning I called up my local Swansea (UK) camera store to ask them if they can get one for me. Since I am flying in tomorrow, I can pick it up as soon as I arrive. They quoted me £1,195 for the lens .. not that bad really, I was "OK" to pay that, out of desperation.

They ask me to call back in a while, as they needed to check with Nikon on availability. So, 30 minutes later, I call them and they said Nikon are out of stock for 4 weeks (all stock taken up by Jessops) and that once the lens is made available it will not be £1,195 .. it will be ....

£1,400

Now, unless I can find one excellent copy here I am going to suffer another one of my horrid pancreas attacks.

So, if you're thinking of getting this lens, I'd suggest you get one now.

Thank you, though the link doesn't work

I am going to try and get one here before I leave, if I possibly can. Otherwise, I will have to see what options I have when I am back in UK.

I still have a few hours before my flight leaves :p

Digital Depot have one but don't buy the one they are saving for me :)

EDIT: Oo a coincidence......

Bad luck Wail, hope it was insured.

Wail, is it absolutely wrecked? Definitely no chance of a repair? :'(

Wail

Ive got one.! Same price

Where are you?

Thank you so much for the quick reply, and for reassuring me. Though I am a bit too far right now ... like a few 1,000 of miles away

Just realised you said Swansea!. sorry

I will be in Swansea, God willing, in a few hours ... another 12 hours

No no no, not going to mess with yours ... but I did manage to pick a nice sharp copy just now from the local dealers. Good price too

:'( Yes, too many broken parts, and this is the first time I have lens elements shattering  ... it is being sent to Japan, as locally they can't fix it.

I will try to see if I can claim it off my insurance, I dearly hope so.

Now, time to run off and pack my bags

The stress is starting to kick in :shake: :gag:

I have some pictures, which I will try to post later on. Mind you, it is not for the soft-hearted :shake: ... it looks like a cat that's been run over by that :gag: SLR :'(

I have another customer after it and its my last one.

Stuart,

Thank you very much. I was in Saudi when I broke mine, it was Monday and it was the day I was flying to UK (Swansea). I've managed to pick one from Saudi, I wasn't happy to do a last minute rush buying spree; but I was afraid of coming to UK and get stuck without this lens. It's my workhorse :)

Again, thank you very much for the offer .. if you don't mind, I will contact you for other items that I may need / want while I am in UK :)
