No regrets.....wait a minute .....

Go to art college
Say yes to the girl who asked you to .....well you know the rest. ..and no I didn't
Tell those who matter how much they mean to me before it's too late.

On the plus point I met my wife and I would have told myself to hang in there she will come along in due course......

For me - starting smoking was a daft thing to do.

Other than that - I've made some stupid mistakes along the way. Sure I regret them but that's life and without those mistakes I wouldn't know any better now.

Talking of mistakes and learning from them, I've just realised something.

If I knew then what I know now...........I wouldn't know what I now know. :thinking:

But would you know more, less, or just different?

Or is it way too silly a time to be thinking quite so deeply... **brain-bashing**
 
I started by thinking of the choices I've made over the years and what would I do differently and there were a few, however I then realised that the choices I made all those years ago, have lead to where I am today. So chances are if I did change things I wouldn't be writing this now and maybe I might not even been here but in a body bag (my original career choice was the military and if it hadn't been for meeting my ex wife I would have joined)
 
I wrote a lengthy reply at firs to this, but then realised how depressing it sounds and no one needs to hear that, so to summarise.....

I would change the lot. Hate where I am now and the person I have become. I truly feel like the last 33 years have been wasted. :/
 
Keep doing what you are doing, listen to your heart and instincts, don't just chase blondes, brunettes are fun too.

You're not the only one. Still, regardless of what mistakes have been made, they've been made and you can choose to dwell on what might have been or move on with the knowledge that you can make the rest of your life so much better. Took me a while to get to that point but it's a pretty good place to be.

I'd tell my young self to take education seriously and to read more good books.
 
If I am honest YV to many to list , I have plenty I would have told myself not to do ,one that stands out is a incident that happened when I was a serving soldier that still haunts me to this day,do I regret joining up ., no I don't but I regret doing what I had to do but turning the circle and listening to my parents I would never have joined up and continued my pursuit of the sport I was good at , at the time I was young ,I often wonder what would have happened if I chose a different road , but hey ho you take the rough with the smooth

I think I meant - I know better now because I didn't know any better back then.

If I did know better back then then I wouldn't have made mistakes and it's only through making those mistakes that I know better now.

So if I knew then what I know now - it would have been blind luck and I'd be none the wiser now.
 
I wonder if it's possible to start making good choices after feeling like we've made a lifetime of bad ones, to become the people we'd like to be instead of being disappointed with ourselves?

One thing I forgot - when facing a choice of 2 guitars to buy in 1978 as my first serious instrument, pick the '72 Tele, not the Dynelectron guitarlin copy that will be valueless in a few years time. :)

work harder at uni - study your way to a first instead of partying your way to a lower second

Also don't sell that Nikon F4 and set of lenses to buy an electric guitar, being able to play the first 10 secs of smoke on the water does not pressage a career as a Rawk gawd

No real regrets as such, I'm a firm believer that you have to go through certain things to make you the person you're meant to be, even if that includes a cheating wife and a psychotic/possessive girl friend who pretends she's pregnant after you finish with her.......

The one thing I would say though is "don't 'hold out' until you're nearly 22 waiting for the 'right one' 'cos you're just wasting time and missing out" :lol:
 
I was never good at taking advice not did I look for it very often.
However had I gone on another tack, I would not have had all the experiences and met all the people I did during my 80 Years.

It is hard to know if regrets have any substance anyway, as things might have worked out worse.
We are always starting from where we are now, so just make the most of each opportunity as it comes along.

Unless it is your fate, you shouldn't even be thinking seriously about settling down at 22. There are far more things going on that will define your life than women at that point. There are a massive number of choices and possibilities, It would be mad to think the first option has much chance of being the right one and that includes girl friends. Cameras and work options.

Can't say I'd agree there (married at 20, still happily so to the same woman and now 53) but we are all different. Marriage for me was freedom, while for many it seems to be captivity.
