If money was no problem... (my version)

I wouldn't say a money no problem unless it means being rich and not having unlimited cash.

if I was quite rich and didn't need to work I still would, the best thing is that I wouldn't have to worry about paying the mortgage however it would enable me to have a business to work on and do something with my time and then give a lot of my money to family (and certain friends but you know what money can do to friendship) I would also do some photography related charity schemes such as paying out for camera's to help poor and disabled (mentally and physically) learn photography, especially children.

at least this would make me feel like i've helped majorly in my life and i will never forget it.

none cause I'd spend my time with my family.

Two interesting replies there chaps :)

POAH sounds like the first photographer who is a photographer as a job for the income rather than someone who really wants to be a photographer come what may - nothing wrong with that btw

I'd be the old kind of photojournalist - able to spend months documenting things only of any real interest to myself and a few other people...

Someone did a brilliant peice on FARC guerillas in South America a while back. Superb photos, yet I only ever saw them in 'Eight' magazine.

My 7-10 year goal is to be producing commercial and advertising photography for national and then international brands and campaigns.

Money wouldn't change this really, though it might speed it up a bit...

Not quite. I like my photography but if I had enough money I'd not do it as a living (not that I'm really doing that at the mo anyway lol ). I'd still shoot for my own pleasure but not for money.

if money was no object, id love to direct/film short movies documentries on the 5DMKII. Also i'd to love to pull apart my camera's and come up with mods to tune up your camera/lens.

Probably become nocturnal, lots of astro photography, ideally from a really dark island in the middle of the sea somewhere... so no light pollution... and... during the summer (when it doesn't get dark) either go south or go travelling and shoot wildlife and other things that take my fancy.

ooohh... flying South for the summer...

I reckon you win the 'Bizarre' category so far - a photographer who DOESN'T want light

I want light Dave... just very old light, that's traveled a very very long way. We should respect those photons that have managed to get that far, not interfere with any of our own generated light :D...

I seem to remember that time slows the closer one gets to the speed of light, so presumably at the speed of light time stands still - if so - your light is ageless, just well travelled

Youi'd find me (eventually) in some far flung remote location targeting the rarest, seldom seen, most wonderful creatures on this planet of ours. I can't think of anything photographically which could come close to that.

already doing it I think.

This is the LBB problem we have in Britain - everything is sooooooo boring looking here

So why are fab creatures always a zillion miles away, in some remote sodding dangerous back-water living in near darkness of undergrowth :shake::shake::shake:

God is clearly NOT a photographer :D

I would travel the world doing wildlife stuff, photographing things I have never seen in places I have never been. Like darkest South Yorkshire for instance.......;)

You'd be eaten alive round here mate :shake: The locals don't do 'outsiders' very well

Here's an OT funny on the locals... my wife recently parked her car in a railway station car park. Came back to it at the end of the working day and it wouldn't start :( Worse it pee'd petrol straight onto the floor

Turns out some scumbags (thick ones at that) had been under the car and cut the fuel line to syphon off some petrol - £485 repair later she won't park there again

Damn, I was gonna say I'd photograph selected scantly clad girls on sandy beaches. For private documentation purposes only. :D

Buy a lecia M7 film camera ,a set of lenses,a full darkroom, loads of infared b&w film and tour england and france in a narrow boat just taking photos of everything, enspired by Sir Simon Marsden

If you'd have said "With no film in the camera" you could have swung me on that. :naughty:

I'm with mr crow.

Leica M9

APO- Summicron M 90mm F2
Noctilux M 50mm F0.95

And what would you and Mr Crow do with these M9s? Look at them, polish them, show them to your friends? That's what people with Leica's do isn't it:shrug: I thought Dave's question was what would you do with your photography not what would you buy:shrug:

Well spotted :D

Well, I'm firmly in the use them camp and thats what I would do, concentrating more on available light portraits and using the camera and lenses as a tool I could manage weight wise to achieve that goal

D3s all the best lenses, 3speedlites, triggers, car, women..sorted

I've been thinking about this for a while, because I probably already do what many people would swap their grandma's for.

So that rules out being a landscape photographer.....

I'd certainly like to do more wildlife, and I'm hoping to begin to put that right in the future. And I really enjoy working with people when it happens - which is quite rarely.

But of the possible genres of photography I'd really like to have a go at its aerial photography. Some of the most stunning "landscapes" I've ever seen were taken from the air. For example

1 The Earth from the Air (Yann Arthus-Bertrand)
2 Earthsong (Bernhard Edmaier)

Both real "landscape as abstract art" type stuff

And HIMUPNORTH on here is not bad either!

But first of all I'd have a real struggle with the environmental implications of flying. Not only would hiring helicopters be excessively expensive, the carbon emissions must be horrendous. So for both those two reasons, I doubt that it will ever happen !

Foe me, would be split, spend part of my time traveling the world with wildlife expedition teams searching for unknown species, then documenting, resulting images would be sold to aid the wildlife charities.

Then the rest of the time, shooting beautiful models on exotic beaches/ locations :D

You could always do as HIMUPNORTH does and simply throw a cup-full of petrol in a lawnmower engine on your back while hanging onto a big kite :D

So to sum up - you fancy shooting rare birds - of all types ;)

Hi Jerry,

Do you fancy meeting up at Nant-yr-arian to have a crack at the red kites at some point?

With regard to new kit, I'd love to get my hands on the 28-300mm L and also one or two fast telephoto primes as well (although that's not likely to happen any time soon). ;)
