I have a new PC with Win 8.1 and I've picked up some useful tips on this forum. However although thinks seemed ok in the beginning I now find 3 months on that IE 11 tend to stall on picture heavy sites. Facebook is a nightmare and I am forced to use Chrome.
I have checked all the obvious (viral scan & malware) and it appears clean. Currently running Avast anti-virus.

Is there anything I can do or have missed?

Thanks

Plugins?
Extensions?
Might be worth a scan with Malware-bytes.
I'm not a heavy IE11 user but I've never found it to be slow.

Thanks Dan but I have checked all the obvious, I'll give Firefox a whizz

You can try opening IE. Hitting F12. Click network tab. Click the "Play" button.
This is the network profiler, I'd have a ganders and see if there's any resources getting inserted into each page you load and thus slowing the browser down. I've seen it several times in compromised browsers.

IE is a terrible browser, I am surprised it has taken Microsoft so long to realise this and finally retire it.

I find Chrome to be better than Firefox in terms of viewing images in the browser/

Don't go with Firefox it crashes far more often than IE.
I see the annoying "this is embarrassing" error message far too often for it to be funny.

Never had much wrong with IE11, certainly not slow.

Perhaps you could uninstall it then install it again?

yeah not use IE :)

Try resetting ie click on Internet options, little cog top right and clock on Options at the bottom. Go advanced tab and reset ie tick to reset user options as well.

I'm another Firefox user, since the first version. I do occasionally get the error message but it's still better IMHO than IE which I have to use at work. There's a good knowledgebase and forum if you have problems and more add-ons than you can shake a stick at.

Thanks for all the replies but no better.... going to save my bookmarks and remove then re-install

Just use Chrome only time i ever use IE is to download other browsers

Try this

1. Clear temporary internet files
2. Clear temp folder
3. Goto to internet options, advanced tab, and untick enable 3rd party extensions
4. If still problems. In the same section, disable hardware acceleration. Tick use software rendering.

This is all of the top of my head - but those options are there.
