Hi

downloaded the free depth of field app iDOF. I am confused as to what/why there are "distance to object" settings on it?

surely if Im wanting hyperfocal distance Im then going to focus at that distance so my distance to object will be the same as the hyper focal?

Or to put it another way if Im doing my landscape and I'm at f11 and want to focus on hyperfocal distance fo rmaximum depth of field, what do I set the distance to object settings at?

Hope this is clear?

Thanks for any assistance

I use the DOFMaster app on the iPhone. On this you need to put an initial distance in, tell it the type of camera and aperture etc. It then gives you the D O F plus the hyperfocal distance for that camera/aperture combination.

It may be the same with iDOF it needs some initial data to start with

Because you're using a DoF calculator to give you hyperfocal distance ... which are not the same thing. For hyperfocal distance you don't need to enter the focus distance but for DoF limits (i.e. how far in front and behind the subject will be in focus) then it needs to know how far away the subject is.
