I have a big health and lifestyle project and need to come up with some interesting lighting.
For example I'm going to shoot hands, so I thought a silhouette in front of softbox andusing a spot light to create a shadow, thats as far as my creative ideas go.
Does anyone have some ideas to make a hand look interesting with lights, needs to be fairly straight forward.
Any tips would be..ahem..handy :suspect:

A true silhouette in front of a softbox isn't easy, because of flare caused by light directly striking the lens. Use white paper instead, with light bounced at an oblique angle from opposite sides.

As for other ideas, that depends on the effects you want - a very feminine hand perhaps, holding something like a hairbrush, lipstick etc and with fairly flat lighting?
A farmer's hand, lit very strongly with oblique, hard lighting to show weathering, hairs etc?
A skilled hand, holding a chisel or similar, again with hard lighting?

Shot a flash through it. The veins show up quite interestingly.

Here is something I did some while ago, when I was very very bored. I'm sure with a model and more controlled lighting, you could do a better job. All I did was enclose an SB400 on a TTL cable in my hand.

You can be quite dramatic with rim lights and a medium hard key.

Strobist info:

430EX through lumiquest III camera left and above.
manual flash through 2" snoot camera right and slightly behind for rim light.
Manual flash left and slightly behind through 5" snoot for rim.
All 1/4 CTO gelled

thanks for the ideas. they have been duly noted
keep them comin
