Hello

Been a while since I posted on TP (mainly becuase I forgot my password:tumbleweed:) but I need soe ideas and inspiration, as part of the league competition of the club I'm a member one of the rounds is in 'the style of' now this could be in the style of a phtographer, artisit or anything from how I understand it.

I am really struggling to get me head around it at the moment so thought I'd see if the good people of TP could give me some ideas.

I like most forms of photography but really enjoy

Landscape
Motorsport/Cars
Black and White

I would like to have a go at street photography but worry about taking th camera out on busy streets on my own.

Any ideas advice etc would be very greatfully received

Mark

Don't worry to much about taking your camera out on the street, cant say you will never be confronted because at some time you will,it just the nature of street photographer :)

B&W landscape in the style of Ansel Adams? Simple in concept but I'd imagine execution would have to be pretty much perfect.

This is something I'm looking at I need to get a Ansley Adams book from the library to give me some ideas

I need to get 4 pictures 2 for print and 2 for projection ideally differnt type of picutre if I can.....

If you can get Examples The Making Of 40 Photographs; Adams explains the thought process behind some of the images rather than just talking about technique and shutter speeds. Well worth a read even if you go down a different path.

Or pick a photographer with a more obvious style of content. Cartier Bresson for example. Where you could do it in black and white and set up some shots to look like spontaneous candids.

I was also going to say Cartier bresson. You say you want to try street and like b&w. He was also not so in your face as a lot of other popular street photographers as you mentioned you're a little worried.

Or some David Hockney mosaics. Or Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe type colorings.

There was a photographer mentioned last night I want to find out more about I can not remeber his exact name but it was something like David Gilban and he is known for his night time photography and photos of Guernsey I think. If anyone can help Identify him I would be greatful.

I now have to sort out 2 more for the DPI competion.....

I think I'd go for an 'artist' rather than a 'photographer'

Back in my college days we did some Lowry scenes in Manchester. They were on film but with digital it could be fun.

As mentioned earlier - Hockney or Warhol could be intersting.

You could get very creative with some abstract work based on Jackson Pollock.

How about a mono portrait in the style of Jane Bown? Find someone with an interesting face ....

That'd be my approach too... probably something in the Dutch/Flemish Old Masters Still Life stuff... Try Pieter Claesz, William Claesz Heda or Willem van Aelst for some of the more accessible stuff.

Thanks for all the replies guys I will have a look at the Artists listed I was looking at trying to turn one of my older images in to a monet look image or similar
