Hi, I have a long term battle with Parkinson's which doesn't stop me from getting out and shooting what I like and enjoying life but would like to use my positive outlook to help those with the condition who are not so fortunate.
Doing some research thought that a sky dive would be a good thing to do but I need to raise nearly £500 and through I would like to think I could do this I have to be realistic.
Then a friend suggested incorporating my passion for photography as a sponsorship. She suggested travelling to every county taking a photo of a iconic monument and even selling the prints to raise even more cash.
Just wondered if any body out there on talk photography has any more crazy ideas that could make a sponsorship fun and use that camera for a good use.
Just want to do something

Perhaps your can find more people with the disease that have the same positive outlook and travel the UK to take their portraits and interview them about their positivity and their experiences of the disease? It would make a very interesting photo book project that could raise money through sales and be useful for others facing the condition.

I saw Billy Conolly on stage a couple of weeks ago at the Apollo, he's been quite open about his experiences with Parkinson's and is keeping a positive outlook.

Not a sky dive. I forget the exact figure but on average, sky dives for charities related to the NHS (and other medical issues) cost around 4x what they raise...

About a year ago there was a report about it and the estimate was that every pound raised for charity cost the tax-payer £13 in medical bills. They also questioned the efficiency of parachute jumps as a mechanism for raising money with the first £250 - £300 of sponsorship going directly to the company providing the jump and not the charity.

Away from the negative and back to the positive though - Alastair's suggestion has a lot of merit. Those positive stories being made more widely known is a good thing in itself. Which charity would you plan to raise the money for?

When I was young I had to have regular injections from a doctor - I hated it. One day my regular doctor was away so one of the others in the practice stood in. I was terrified as she had Parkinsons . I never felt the injection and asked if I could have her do the injections in future.

Sorry, yes, I'll give some thought to a suitable theme/set of themes for something photographic. The immediate and obvious thought is for a calendar but I can't offer any advice as to what to shoot since I'm not that familiar with the OP's locality.

Thanks for all your help and comments. Very interesting reading about how little money goes to charity with a sky dive. I live on the Essex/herts border and would love to do something a bit different to raise money for Parkinson's sufferers. Would love to use my camera and my passion for a worthwhile cause.
Alastair your idea is very good and needs some thought how I would achieve it but a vey interesting idea that would do a lot of good.
Thanks for your help and ideas, it makes my condition feel better at the support on here.
